Hitchhiker clam attached to my Maxima

I would not try to remove it. It will probably move on its own since clams can move around using they foot. You got lucky my friend, congrats!

    My First Starfish

MaroonClownFan, I also live in Michigan (West Bloomfield). If you don't want the Asterina, I would love to pick him up. I'm trying to breed them so that I can feed my harlequins them.

Dwarf Lion: Can it be kept in a reef tank?

If _all_ the fish and shrimp (would have to be large shrimp) were the size of the lion's max size. Could it be done without losing anything? I'm basically trying to see if there is any way to get some type of lion in a reef. I will be setting this up and doing the research on stuff for the...

Q: Switching from 65w PC to 175w MH

Ok, my nano currently has a 65 watt power compact running about 12-15 hours a day. I bought 1 175w MH because I'm putting together my 75g tank. I want to put the MH in the nano for now and put the PC over my curing (it's actually cured now) LR bin to start growth of other stuff. My question...

75g: 1x175w MH and 1x250w MH ... would this look bad?

Ok, I've got one 175w IceCap Electronic ballast coming in tomorrow with an AB 10K bulb. I have the oppurtunity to get a 250w PFO ballast from a friend for relatively cheap. Would it look bad if I had these two combo's running in a singe 75 gallon? If I used the same brand of bulbs, AB 10K...

Difference between Electronic Ballast and HQI Ballast (both MH)

The title pretty much says it all. What is the real differences? Thanks for your time.

Nano Looks great but: Oxygen bubbles!

The one powerhead is well under the water level (2-3 inches completely underneath). There is nothing else mechanical in my tank besides that. I thought at first it was my sand bed processing nitrogen. But there's just to many. It also only happens when the lights have been on for about 8...

Nano Looks great but: Oxygen bubbles!

My tank looks great. But by the end of the day there are a plethora (I always wanted to use that word) of oxygen bubbles on the water surface, on the glass, on the rock, and my Xenia seems to attract some (it's scaring up). I dont have an algea problem, that I'm aware of. I scrap my front glass...

What would you pay for this clam?

Not the best picture. The colors didn't turn out, but it is Brown, Grey, Blue, and White. You can see from the pattern how it would look in person. I believe it is a Maxima. Looking for it's value and if it's a good specimen.

Detroit Area: Anyone have a 32w PC ballast I can rent for two weeks (ballast blew)

I'm ordering Metal Halides for my 75 (I can use one for my nano until I make the switch to the 75) on Tuesday, but I need a light source until they come in. My ballast that ran my two PCs blew up and is out of comission so I'm desparate to find something that will work for a couple weeks...

Nitrogen Bubbles in my Nano by the end of the day.

Well my tank has been up for 3 months now and doing great. Starting to buy the equipment for my 75 gallon. By the end of the day there are alot of nitrogen bubbles in my tank and on surface of the water. It really hasn't bothered me much. However, earlier this week the Xenia had two bubbles that...

    how much turnover?

The water in a reef is turned over by a very large factor. Nothing that we can simulate in 'small' tanks.

Hermit Crab has buried himself in the sand 3 times in the last 24 hours

Ok, my scarlet hermit crab had pretty much buried himself in the sand for 2 days. He wasn't moving any of his apendages. So I grabbed him and put him on a piece of rock. Within a couple hours he was back in the same place buried in the same way. So last night I unburied him and put him on the...

    Live Sand

You don't want 'live sand', you want 'LIVE SAND'. The stuff in the bags is really only sand that is ladden with bacteria. What you want is all the fauna that comes in it. Here is an article telling you why you want LIVE SAND and what it really is: http://www.rshimek.com/reef/sediment.htm Read...

    Algae on sand?

Well there are several problems right away before the algae, but I'm sure the Tang police will be around soon to tell you some of those (no yellow Tang should be in any tank smaller than a 75, and even then a 100+ gallon is really the lower end). Is this algae red? It's probably cynobacteria...
