My first "sort of Nano" reef, diary..

So this first post may be long so bear with me. Day_1 I am planning on purchasing a 45g cube (it is not formally considered a nano I know) that will be used to house a small variety of fish and hopefully corals. It will be my first attempt at keeping both as I started this hobby with a 65g tank...

    A Conundrum, what to Do?

I have been reading up on and researching hair algae issues for the better half of a day now and have found some great advice and some solid stand by's (i.e mexican turbos, tiger cowrie, water changes etc).. After all of this I came to the question of okay, well what to do with my lighting...

    Help Moving To New Tank

I agree with tlsohio if the hair algae is a big problem not just a minor thing I don't know that I would want to chance it by moving the LR into the new tank and having it come back there.. Also with the second tank being new the tank has not had a chance to build up any sort of denitrification...

    Some Bad News...

Unfortunately not, it is one of my flaws.. My lfs does quarantine the fish for me after I purchase the fish, but wouldn't work so well for this endeavor. It would have to be weened onto prepared foods in the DT :(

    Nassarius Snail Question?

What does it mean when these little guys decide to chill on my LR vs burying themselves in the sand for long periods of time? About 1/5 of my small regular nassarius snails have up and decided that this may be fun, and I have no idea why.. Any thoughts or knowledge? Thx

    Some Bad News...

I don't know whether to laugh or frown about your little white lye? haha, I feel I got pretty lucky with mine he was very active at the lfs, would come right up to the glass and stare me down but wasn't stupid and would hide if I moved to quick or got to close. Started grazing day one, and just...

Copperband Butterfly Reconnaissance, and Research help..

Hmm, that's quite interesting and helpful BTLD! It sounds like adding a variety of foods to coral skeletons seems to help greatly. I have also found that allowing or helping worms grow on your LR can help or at least keep them fed until they decide to make the switch?

    Sumps, Mechanical vs. Natural..

I am embarking on yet another sump building project and this time want it to be spot on, and not find design flaws AFTER I build it *hits head against wall repeatedly* So as the title states what would you recommend mechanical vs natural? or filters vs refugium? if you will.. I figure natural is...

    Some Bad News...

After 7 months I lost my Potters Angel while out of town this weekend :( And to make it worse it was my birthday weekend. Surprisingly not to upset, just bummed that I had kept him so long and was doing very well, only to leave and have a friend call and break the news. He seemed to be in great...
