    When to treat for Ich

    When to treat for Ich

First off, we tried taking a picture of the fish but nothing came out good enough to show the white spots. He's been in the tank 11 days now. I noticed yesterday that the spot on his cheek is gone and the spot on his topfin looked loose, like it was about to fall off; like a scab. Today I come...

    When to treat for Ich

Hello all. I just got a Coral Beauty angelfish 8 days ago. He's in the quarantine tank and I think he might have ich. It's not an obviously bad case, but I see a white speck on his "mohawk" top fin, and he has a faint white spot on his right cheek. He's been breathing kinda hard from time to...

    Emergency Toolkit

So we lost power at 4:15am Saturday night and got it back around 3pm Sunday afternoon. When I woke up around 7am I went to check the tanks and from the outside they still felt warmish. The thermometer showed about the same temp as it usual is, so to try and insulate it I threw some blankets on...

    Emergency Toolkit

Staten Island, NY here. Same boat, first time hurricane recipient. So I can handle if we have some leaking, or even if a window caves in. Things can be repaired or replaced. But the one thing I can honestly say I'm worried about the most is if we lose power and more poor fish have to suffer...

    Quarantining Inverts

Hi. I've had a B/W Clownfish and an Orange Clownfish in my tank (55g) for a few months now and thought about getting anemones for them to live with. I was just in the pet store and asked the owner if you have to quarantine anemones and he said no because they can't get ich. I said that I've...

    Worms in my tank!!

Hi all. I had a bad epidemic in my tank, my wonderful little fishies are all gone (think it was some ich picked up from a chain store, but I guess we'll never know exactly) :( Anywhos, so the tank is still running with all the inverts in it (another reason why I'd say it's ich) and I checked...

    What New for my Tank?

Hey all. I actually have 2 questions here:   1) Lookin' for what to put in my 55g next. Right now there is a flame angel, true percula clownfish, black & white clownfish, yellow clown goby, chocolate chip starfish, quite a few hermits and snails. I had a pair of purple firefish but they both...

Thinking my BlueDot needs some help

"They tend to be hard to keep for any extended period of time in a lot of cases. They exhibit the same symptoms as yours, heavy breathing, loss of appetite, and sooner or later loss of color. Then just lying out in the open on the gravel or in a corner and whithering away to nothing."   By...

Thinking my BlueDot needs some help

Nah, after my first endeavor with colorful agressive FW fish, I've decided to only go for more peaceful fish. One of the things I loved about my puffer was that he never went after any other fish. Only the snails. And occasionally the hermits.

Thinking my BlueDot needs some help

So I tossed around the merits of moving him (possible miraculous recovery) vs. not moving him (last-straw-stress-to-make-him-kick-the-bucket), but when I came home from work today my family showed me that my decision was made for me. He died while I was at work. His belly was still bloated...

Thinking my BlueDot needs some help

So unfortunately I haven't been able to find a reasonably sized powerhead for the tank this weekend but puffer is still swimming around. Still breathing noticeably. He hasn't been eating, but his belly has swelled up. What does that mean?

Thinking my BlueDot needs some help

The 55g doesn't have any protein skimmers either, but it has a bubbler and a powerhead which may actually be too powerful, as it gives the fish a ride even on the other side of the tank.   I'm heading out now, I'll be checking back later for any more ideas, thoughts, or advice. Thanks for now.

Thinking my BlueDot needs some help

Well he's not a porcupine puffer or anything that gets huge, I heard from multiple stores (not chains either) that I saw him in before I got him that he stays around this size, 2-3 inches. You would still say that 20g is too small for him?   I've thought of the size thing in considering moving...

Thinking my BlueDot needs some help

And by skimmer you mean a protein skimmer, correct?
  16. darkslide820

Thinking my BlueDot needs some help

No, I don't have any skimmers, just a filter. No powerheads in that tank, the angles of the hex make it so awkward to have anything that's not jutting out a quarter through the tank. When I would add ph UP I did a small amount at a time, so I did that right, but I was doing it into the tank, as...

How do you increase oxygen in a fish tank?

Thinking my BlueDot needs some help

Hey all.   Not sure what to do here. My favorite fish, BlueDot Puffer (about 2-3 inches long, 20g hex tank) hasn't looked too great the last week or so. 6 days ago, I was worried about him because he was breathing a little heavy and looked pale. So I did a water measurement, and the results...

Percula & B/W Clownfish, Same Tank

Okay everyone, I'll give a progress report since it's been almost 48 hours after the B/W Clown has entered the tank. As I mentioned in the first post, the True Perc stays in one corner, so I purposely put the B/W Clownfish in the opposite side. So what happened? The B/W, who looks like a baby...

Percula & B/W Clownfish, Same Tank

Only other fish in the 55g are a Yellow ClownGoby and 2 emerald crabs (used to have 2 Purple Firefish too, but they both kicked the bucket one night).   I think I'm gonna go ahead and get him since I got the prices really cheap here on the website. My consolation for the B/W Clownfish is that...
