Crabs not the answer to Bubble Algae

Not off hand, they go by Emerald Crabs as well. Most that I have seen are a pale green.

Crabs not the answer to Bubble Algae

Well, I tried them again- Mithrax Crabs as a clean up solution to my bubble algae problem, which had gotten out of hand. So what did I lose this time to the voracious appetites of the crabs? My beautiful Green Pocillopora Damicornis Coral got a rather severe "haircut," sacrificing many months...

    anemone youth?

I discovered this creature shortly after purchasing a small zoo frag. It looks like a photo I saw featuring the life cycle of an anemone. It is slightly smaller than a pencil eraser and I cannot get a good look at the other side. Lawnmower Blenny tried to eat it but could not get it off the...

    Stylophora troubles

No, not a silly question, as I have never seen a "red bug"- I will find a picture of one so I know what I am looking for. The frag is at the top of my display, about 18" from the 150 watt metal halide. I will take new water readings this afternoon and post them later.

    Stylophora troubles

Well folks, it's been a while since my last public flogging so I will ask another amateurish question; I have in my beautiful 29 gallon nano a 2 inch tall Green Stylophora along with other SPS corals (mostly Montiporas). The others are doing very well, the Stylo-not so much. Water parameters...

    juvenile starfish survivability?

I have discovered a tiny starfish, maybe the size of the end of a #2 pencil eraser, clinging to the glass after a coral purchase. Does it have any chance of survival? I am aware of the feeding habits of the adults but have no idea of what it may eat at this size. It is of the "chocolate chip"...

How do the zoanthids spread off of the frag plug?

Okay, so the polyp is standing tall and doing well on the ceramic frag plug and new little ones are coming up at the base. My question is how do they finally "move" or spread off of the plug and onto the live rock to colonize? Thanks, Nick

    R/O water-is a supplement needed?

I am using Red Sea brand salt, which calls for using R/O water which is not a problem. However, is it necessary to add a supplement to the water, such as RO Right, or does the salt mix take care of that? I have been using RO Right in my freshwater systems.

TFH readers, please help identify this fish!

I am referring to a fish shown in the March 2011 issue for Tropical Fish Hobbyist but not identified. It is on page 86, to the left of the Firefish-I think it is a type of Goby, but...

    Recommend a thrifty test kit?

Any recs on a good refractometer? I see you mentioned it earlier. I am still using an old style Marineland salinometer with the floating "arm."

    Recommend a thrifty test kit?

Wow, I got answers and a butt-kickin'! No, my skin is a bit thicker than that. I certainly appreciate the responses, that is exactly what I was looking for. By "thrifty" I meant getting the job done without a bunch of needless extras. Thank you to all.

    Recommend a thrifty test kit?

Hello, I am setting up a nano non-photosynthetic 29 gallon tank and plan to keep a dendro or sun coral along with a fish or two. Can anyone advise me as to a suitable test kit pertinent to the corals. Thank you
