Slightly OT: visit my newbee's website!

Great looking tank! Thanks for sharing your pictures.. I have a question tho if you don't mind. How do you get your pictures to come out so well? I've noticed quite a few people on this board post pics of their critters... but I can never get mine to come out :( I've got a pretty decent...

    Dust!

If what you are describing is the problem I had (and I think it is) I solved it by getting a skimmer... now the water is crystal clear, no more particles floating about... but it looks like you have a skimmer in your setup. Is it functioning properly? Perhaps that is the issue... just my two...

    Cleaner Shrimp Question

I just found the answer to my question on the New Hobbyist forum... I guess shrimp molt when they are stressed out, and a new environment would qualify! Sorry for the post. Thanks Saltwaterfish.com! -GTW

    Cleaner Shrimp Question

I am rather new at this, so pardon this question: I purchased two cleaner shrimp for my tank yesterday as well as a few other critters and everything is going fine but I noticed what appears to be a shell of one of the shrimp lying on the bottom of the tank today. Is this normal? I am guessing...

    CC Vs. LS?

from what i've learned - mostly on this board - it is possible to change over from CC to LS, and LS should provide better control for your 'trates and all that good stuff (everyone out there knows more about this than I do tho)... the process is very involved... you pretty much have to take your...

    Cloudy water?

The same thing happened with my tank when I first set it up.. I get the feeling that no matter how well you clean the CC that cloud will appear! It took about two full days for my tank to clear up and the water has been like crystal ever since... good luck and have fun setting up your tank :D -GTW

Has this ever happened to you?

i don't know too much about the science behind decomposition... but I think that is what happened to my blennie  ... I was gone for over 1 month so unless my friend fished him out and forgot (not likely) that has to be the only remaining explanation, unless i'm missing something and there...

Clean Up Crew and Crushed Coral

Thanks for the replies! I was wondering if this was "normal" even tho the growth does seem a bit excessive. I do vaccum the CC every time I do a WC (approx every 2 weeks). I will prob pick up some Astera snails just to help control the growth tho... if anyone can think of a better algae janitor...

Clean Up Crew and Crushed Coral

I know this question has prob been asked before and I apologize in advance... but I could not find the answer  I have a 44gl Hex w/ crushed coral 1 perc clown / 2 blue damsels / 1 yellow tail damsel / the tank has been set up for approx 9 months and I am now having a terrible algae...

Have I totally messed things up with undergravel filter????

I'd leave it be... that seems to be the general consensus anyway. I attempted to take an UG plate out of my old tank and in the process managed to screw absolutley EVERYTHING up and lost nearly all my fish in the process... IMO it is not worth the effort. Just my two cents worth :D -GWT

Has this ever happened to you?

I have (or had... don't know which) a bi-color blennie, while I was on vacation and was having a friend feed my critters he turned up missing. That was a week ago... haven't seen him out since. I took out the rocks and looked around the tank (thinking he jumped) but still nothing... strangest...

    Foggy Water ...

I just recently installed a skimmer in a new (8 months old) setup and the water is crystal clear, the best it has ever looked. The skimmer isn't even broken in yet (only been running two days) and it collected some nasty looking stuff in the cup. In any case it is a noticable difference after...

    New Protein Skimmer

Thanks for your replies everyone! It looks like the best thing for me to do is just let it break in. As far as the quality of the skimmer goes I think (hope) it will be ok for my setup (not a large tank 44gal)... if not I won't go back to the store that said 'buy this one it is perfect' in the...

    New Protein Skimmer

I just installed a new skimmer and after setting it up (and chopping up half my hood to make it fit :) It seems to be working OK but it is spitting out a whole bunch of really fine bubbles. Is this normal when it is first set up? Or did I do something wrong. It is a hang on tank SeaClone 100...
