    one-word answer needed

Well I won't buy one until lighting is sufficient. Main reason I ask is that I think I might have a hitchhiker on LR I purchased about 9 months ago and still seems to be alive. Thanks for the r-e-s-p-o-n-c-e-s.

    29g tank additions

does anyone have an idea if 3 pep. shrimp is too much for a 29g FOWLR?

    29g tank additions

What do you think of adding 2 false percs (aquacultured), a bicolor blenny and some peppermint shrimp to an empty 29g tank. I still have some snails and crabs but no fish since my last one died a month ago. Tank has been set up for over a year now - no ammonia, no nitrites, 10-30 ppm nitrates...

    Hermit crabs kill your fish?

it was the only fish in the aquarium and didn't appear to be stressed, so it sounds like jwtrojan44 is right.

    Hermit crabs kill your fish?

I came home from work yesterday and saw 2 hermit crabs having a feast on my bicolor dwarf angel. One was attached to it's mouth and another clamped inside the right gill. It took a minute to get them off but it was already dead. Pissed me off- it was my fav. fish and had him for about 9...

Can a feather duster carry fish parasites? Should it be quarantined?

feather duster out of its tube!

The whole worm is out of the tube. After I bought him, I propped him up in a hole in my live rock about 2 inches above the sand bed. Now the whole worm is on the bed while his tube is in the same location in the rock. He seems to be alive, his feathers are still open although he is now curled...

feather duster out of its tube!

Anybody know why a feather duster would squirm out of its tube. I bought it 10 days ago and yesterday I got home and saw it was on the sand bed out of the tube. It's an ugly sight. My water params are ok: Ammonia 0 ppm Nitrite 0 ppm Nitrate 15 ppm pH 8.2 Alk. 4.5

    St. Louis area sand

I purchased 4 X 40lb bags of the Gulf Coast White Beach Sand in the Home Depot on Vogel Road. The bags have been sitting outside in the snow and were frozen. When I opened them, some of the sand looked to be rusty, so I washed it. The water turned very dark orange/red so I decided to wash the...

    Condy Anenome

The "sting" I was taking about InvaderZim is that by which it inflicts upon its prey to capture and eat it, not its affect on a human hand.

    Condy Anenome

I've kept a Condy for a few months now and has been doing well with feedings every 2-3 days with fresh shrimp and silversides. However, it did eat my small false percula clown. I've been told the sting is quite high compared to other anemones. Has anyone kept a Condy with a clown other than a...

    anemone ate my clownfish?

Thanks for the info, I didn't know the condi's sting is uncommonly strong. Now that I think if it, I once saw it scare off a mexican turbo snail when it got too close. But wouldn't the clown be resistant to the sting?

    anemone ate my clownfish?

I came home last night and found my small false-percula clown missing...gone. The nitrates were a bit high (don't remember the number) but not outrageous. It is a tank raised clown and never touched the anemone. It just swam in the open water and never through the rock. I just fed my...

    Undergravel filters

Sorry, a typo. I meant 0-10 ppm, not 100. The tank has already cycled and I have what looks to be happy inhabitants. It will stay for now. Thanks for the input.

    Undergravel filters

Thanks for the info. It sounds like an UG filter alone will not be sufficient. I have approx. 1lb/gal of live rock plus a pengiun biowheel filter. Will the nitrates be more stable if I turn off the UG or will it not hurt with the additional filtration operating? By the way, the nitrates have...

    Undergravel filters

What is so wrong with UG filters in a marine aquarium? I've read so negative posts over the last few days without anyone explaining what negative aspect (nitrate fluctuations?) they cause and why. Thanks for the info in advance.
