    I have some stupid questions

To re-emphasize what the others have said, Please, PLEASE read some good books on Saltwater fishkeeping. Btw, you didn't do Everything wrong; although your local fish store is evidently staffed by idiots, you obviously tried to get advice before you started on your saltwater experience. Some...

Sick of skimmer, getting new one. What is a good kind?

Jess, Before you get another skimmer, read this thread that I posted a several months ago. Concerning you protein skimmer, I also have a SeaClone 100, but I believe many skimmers have similar features, specifically some type of Air Intake... IMO, there's at least two things to consider. First...

How hard is it to make a DIY 100- 120 gallon tank?

um, I still haven't purchased a larger tank, and I haven't built anything, either. I keep hoping for a sub $300 tank to come along....

please help lots of bubbles in the tank

I'm not sure if the source of your bubbles is coming from the Protein skimmer or not, but I'm going to quote a response I posted earlier concerning my seaclone skimmer: Originally posted by Moonrs Concerning you protein skimmer, I also have a SeaClone 100, but I believe many skimmers have...

how hard is a saltwater tank?

I also agree that setting up the sw tank is much more expensive than freshwater, but I also agree that it's much more rewarding to me. My experience is that, after the initial expenditures for equipment and livestock, the actual maintainence from day to day is nearly the same(except when you get...

Newbie - A few (long) questions

Originally posted by Normis If I'm going to use live rock, won't I need some sort of cleaning crew? What do you guys recommend? While you're cycling your tank, you wont need a cleanup crew, per se. Most, if not all of the cleanup crew would die if added while the tank was cycling. IMO...

    SeaClone Bubbles

Concerning you protein skimmer, I also have a SeaClone 100, but I believe many skimmers have similar features, specifically some type of Air Intake... IMO, there's at least two things to consider. First, it usually takes awhile (a few weeks) for a skimmer to get "broken in". Assuming you've been...

Can a true Perc pair up with a false perc?

Currently, I don't have very many corals, only a galaxia that looks like it may die from my going on vacation (too much water evaporated from my tank). I also have various types of discs/mushrooms, and polyps. I have a compact light with actinic, 96watts per bulb... Is that not enough?

Can a true Perc pair up with a false perc?

ty, reefman, I'll try to catch the loner clown, as well as my goby(he gets sand everywhere...). I'll see if I might be able to get some thing else instead, like a nice xenia or a clam.

    same type of clownfish?

Thankyou flamehawk. So far, it does appear as if my true perc is going to pair up with the false perc... The false perc that's in the picture above more or less swims right next to the true perc. I'm not really sure how to tell if they're "paired up". If they do pair up, it'll be doubly...

how can I catch a fish that's really fast?

Well, I'll try anything. I do think he's probably good for the sandbed, stirring it up and all, but he leave's everything a mess... I have a sand-shifting starfish, and he does a good job, I guess. Is there a type of fish that performs a similar function as my goby without so much mess? Should I...

Can a true Perc pair up with a false perc?

I originally had a pair of true percs, lost one(he somehow got spooked and jumped out of the tank, then turned into a little fish mummy under the tank), and the bought a pair a false percs. The True perc is about 1 3/4" and the false percs are 1 1/4". So far, the true perc is hanging out with...

Can a true Perc pair up with a false perc?

I've got a true perc and just bought another clown, thinking it was the same. Turns out the second one is a false perc. Can these fish still pair up? They seem to be tolerating each other atm...

    New Tank Help

Well, warlockgp, at least it's only a few extra days off murkiness... Rather than losing money. Anyway, when I rinsed my non-live sand, I put a few pounds of sand into a bucket at a time, put in a little tap water and swished it around several times with my hand. After letting the...

how can I catch a fish that's really fast?

I have a banded sleeper goby that is a good additon to my tank, except for one thing: he spreads sound around like a madman. He even will take a mouthful of sand, swim to the top of the tank, then spit it out on top of my corals and live rock. This has gotten to be a pain, and I think I've come...

    New Tank Help

It's too late now, but if you didn't rinse the base sand (not the live sand) before you put it in the tank, the dust that's within the sand could cause your tank to be cloudy for days... IMO, and from what I've read, you should always rinse off the sand you put in your tank before using it. This...

    same type of clownfish?

Ross, I've sent you an email... Thanks for the reply. 007, I noticed that the fish was missing right away... It took four weeks to figure out where it went to and retrieve it. So, can a true percula and a false percula pair up? any other opinions?

    same type of clownfish?

I recently bought a new clownfish to replace a recent loss due to mummification (it jumped out of the tank; I found it 4 weeks later, underneath the tank, a miniture fish mummy), but I"m not sure if it's the same... I've been looking for weeks at the LFS for one with similar Heavy black markings...
