Truth is, that global warming reached its height during the age of dinosaurs. The world was a lush and thriving place. The problem is, that for humans, who mostly live near natural water sources, we have established our largest populations near water. When the earth warms, ice melts, and the coasts, where very large human populations exist, will be covered.
Its inevitable that this will happen, just as the planet will experience ice ages again, greatly reducing food supplies. We can theorize the causes, even blame ourselves, and blame the cows too til we are blue....these events will still happen again regardless of blame or no-blame.
There's not a dang thing we can do about (with current technology at least).
While CO2 has increased like 30% since the beginning of the industrial revolution methane has increased about 150% AND it is about 20 times more potent a greenhouse gas than CO2. Yet they only want to regulate CO2. Could that be because the global socialist know that regulating methane would effect 3rd world countries far more than the US? And if CO2 is SO NASTY why cap and trade rather than just require a reduction in output? This whole man caused warming scam is the greatest hoax in the history of human kind.
I thought you've been arguing that CO2 isn't a greenhouse gas. What changed your mind?
Where did I say that??? I said that if the higher concentration trapped more infrared radiation that would normally leave the atmosphere it also blocks more from the sun so it's a zero gain.
If it's zero gain then by definition it's not a greenhouse gas.

We are still killing the planet regardless, I did get a chuckle reading Beth's post though since according to a whole lot of conservatives man and dinosaurs co-existed.

I am also wondering why you guys are always hating on Al Gore, he is doing nothing more than making money by taking advantage of the free market and peoples stupidity, business as usual, just insert the word global warming instead of Wall St.

Well your supposed paradox doesn't quite work because for the uncle ape, granola munching, fruit cake, happy meal banners think, the indigenous humans were one with nature, and that is pretty much all that the dinosaur human coexisting crowd think was around. Some nomadic tribes of basically for lack of a better term Indians.
Streb27, this post makes no sense at all, I take it you believe dinosaurs and people co-existed? If so, your lack of understanding of basic science should be a good reason to excuse yourself from any global warming discussion regardless of it you think the earth is warming or not. Not trying to be harsh here, but the physical and metaphysical worlds are two vastly different things, both okay on their own, but not to be mixed.

So very slowly for you...
A typical liberal thinks that indians are the perfect human, one with nature, never kills more than it needs, and bla bla bla. You can look at Jame Cameron's depiction of the Navi as an example.
2 assuming the refernces in Job to dinosuars or dragons or whatnot means that human's and dinosuars coexisted. You'd have to assume it was undeveloped humans. Like an indian. So taking your rediculous statement. That I assumed was a joke. So I continued on your humorous framework, by making it even more rediculous.
Of course it makes no actual sense. Since the base train of thought made no sense. It was just a joke, and following a rediculous rabbit trail to it's hypothetical end.

If it's zero gain then by definition it's not a greenhouse gas.
Gas that absorbs infrared radiation is defined as a greenhouse gas. Just because the concentration of said gases in the atmosphere change it doesn't mean the overall temperature would change for the reason I stated up thread. If less infrared from the sun is striking the planet's surface then it stands to reason their is less surface heating in the first place. With less planetary heating there is less infrared emitted back from the planets surface.
So with higher concentrations of greenhouse gases
1) Not as much of the sun's infrared radiation reaches the earth's surface to heat it
2) Because the earth's surface doesn't get as hot it emits less infrared radiation back to the atmosphere
It appears to me that the additional heat from more greenhouse gas in the atmosphere can only make up for the loss of heating from more of the suns infrared radiation being blocked from reaching the planet's surface.
Of course that doesn't mean we shouldn't be cutting CO2 but the threat has nothing to do with temperature.

so how will the illegals get it?will they be turned away at the hospital?my wife works for a county hospital and 90% of the people having babies there give fake id's.
The new bill specifically states it will not cover "non US citizens". There's nothing the Feds can do if illegals are using fake ID's to get free healthcare. You want to fix that? It's called a National ID Card similar to one of those new Passort Cards. If you want any kind of service, you have to show that card. Of course the conservatives will say that reeks of Big Brother Government Oversight
Just cut off all government services to illegals and the problem will solve itself.

As far as I know CO2. Methane, Nitrous Oxide, Ozone and water vapor are it as far as having any real effect. Also brings up another interesting point. Perhaps we should bring back CFC's so we can get rid of some more Ozone to cool things down LOL!

We can't do anything about the warming but we do need to worry about CO2 concentrations messing with the ocean's PH level. We mess up the oceans and we're seriously hosed.

Good lord, I guess I"ll have to explain this again.

You just need to explain your sense of humor I guess Streb, my first post did make sense, Gore is running a huge investment scam.....end of story and since saving the enviroment is consider quite frankly a load of crap by the majority of conservatives it gets a lot of press, while Wall St. is again being allowed to run unchecked with rarely a word from conservatives and though you can't see what the two have in common, that just shows that you have earned your brainwashed conservative T-Shirt, wear it proudly. LOL
Fishtaco
The scam isn't what I was mocking, it was bring up the coexisting dino's and humans. (something I'd bring up, because it is an absolute rediculus trail to follow in that argument, but it does make some twisted sense. If human's existed with dino's they could have destroyed the world then too...

As far as I know CO2. Methane, Nitrous Oxide, Ozone and water vapor are it as far as having any real effect. Also brings up another interesting point. Perhaps we should bring back CFC's so we can get rid of some more Ozone to cool things down LOL!
That's interesting. How does the air warm up? I get up in the morning and it's 5F outside. When I get home it's almost 30F. Is it just the CO2 that's warming up or is there some other way all that nitrogen is getting warmed? Is it visible light vs infrared?

Visible light heats the surfaces, just not as efficiently as infrared. Air warms by being in contact with a warmer object like the planet surface. It's also warmed by any greenhouse gases absorbing infrared from the earth and sun. So during the day as the ground, water, buildings etc get warmer that heat gets transfered to the air. The infrared from the earth and sun will also cause the greenhouse gases in the air to heat up as well.
