220 FOWL Tank Diary

I like the rockwork, that big arch on the far right is cool. The really bright piece on the top right sort of looks like it was just dropped there, but once the rocks 'color-in' it should look good.
Yea a wrasse of some type would be cool. How about a Pinkface, aka Five-Stripe Wrasse (Thalassoma quinquevittatum)? Or then that, I'd say let the tank age for a couple months, and then you could do a large/dwarf angel combo to round out the tank.

Looks great with the rocks back in, nice job on them....How is the Bluejaw Trigger doing? You fattening him up?
I like R.C. and AK's suggestions, I like a Sunset Wrasse (Thalassoma lutescens) would be great in there....Or, you could consider a huge splash of color and activity with a group of Dwarf Angels, say 1 Coral Beauty, 1 Flame, and 1 Lemonpeel. Just add them at the same time....Either way, I would wait and make sure all is well for about 6 weeks before adding anything.

Hey guys ! Pete, the rocks took a longtime, but it came out great, thanks. The fishes are having a goodtime going through the rocks. Also, the Yellow and Purple have become best friends
. The tusk sounds like a great idea. I want to get an Aussie one, but its hard to find one at a good price. Do you think I can put a Sunset and Tusk in together -? Hey Aqua, I love that arch, it kind of wedge itself there. Aqua, I was thinking of going with KJR idea of a Sunset. Can I put him together with a Tusk-?
KJR, the bluethroat is coming along. He's eating a lot of Mysis and Algae sheets. He doesn't like the Krill, and takes a little bit out of a silverside. I wish he would eat more. Thanks for the advice !

try squid. My niger eats that stuff up. I love the smaller angel idea. Def get a Flame angel in there no matter what. That red would look great with the other fish. If it was me I would save up and get a queen or a X mas island Emperor. I dont know how you feel about angels but a large angel would look amazing in there. Congrats on getting it back together. I may be picking up a 210 this weekend. See what happens

I have the 2 together with minimal aggression....Do the opposite of what I did though and get the Aussie Tusk in first, they are the more reserved fish and should have first crack at the tank, before the faster more dominant Sunset comes in, try to get a really small Sunset, they grow pretty quick.
Don't give in and get an Indo Tusk, I like mine, he is a nice fish but I would never get an Indo again. Horrible reputation for being cyanide caught, not as pretty, and don't get as "blue" of teeth as the Aussies (the coolest part of the Harlequin IMO). Spend the extra money.
Sent you a pm as well.

What KJR said.
My Tusk and Goldbar wrasse got along fine, even in the same 55gal QT. Also agreed, please, please don't cave and buy an Indo-Tusk, my experience was horrible.

Hey Crypt ! Do you know where I can get the squid online-? About the Angels, I was thinking a Queen and Emperor maybe by August. What do you think-? Thanks for the PM Kirk. I'm looking
. Thanx Aqua ! Any update on your tank. I also need a little help with a grounding probe. I set up a thread on the Equipment section, but nobody chimed in. Here it is:
Is anyone familiar with the grounding probe from Ultra Life-?
Hey guys ! Hope all is well. I just got a grounding probe for my 220. I took the cover out of my outlet, and attached the probe to the top screw holding the outlet to the wall. Next, I inserted the probe to the display tank. It says on the instructions- "Never allow suction cup or transition joint to become submersed in water". My problem is, that I have the entire probe in the water, suction cup and all. I can't have it sitting on the top edge of the tank, because the top of the tank has a lip on it. I was wondering if I am ok leaving it like that -? Or should I move the probe to my 55 gallon sump, where I can have the suction cup and transition joint above the water level.
And help would be great, thanks !

That sounds like an average price for a 5" Aussie Tusk and I think 5" is a perfect size to get. So I say as long as it's healthy, go for it.

The company is named San Francisco Bay Brand. Ocean Nutrition is great as well. They have their own site. Just type that in on yahoo or google and a few pages will come up. They offer everything. I just picked up some Mussels and my trigger and angels love it as well.

Well you and I have been PMing back and forth, but I will answer on here as well, 5 inch is ideal for an Aussie, you rarely see smaller. I think the fact that this fish has been in custody of BZ for 2 months is a great thing, I suspect this is a very well adjusted/healthy fish at this point, he and the Lime Green will make a great combo.

Crypt, thanks I checked the site out, great info on the Ocean Nutrition. Pete, I'm almost there..... Kirk, thanks for your help and PM's. Looks like I'll go for it. So the Aussie would be about 5in and I could choose either medium or large on the Lime Green. Which one-? Also, you say the 55 gal QT, might be too small to hold both of them-? I would really like to QT, since I had bad experiences before.

A 55 is fine for 2 fish to QT for a month or so....But perhaps not for 2 fish that may not like each other that much. I would call Mark at BZ and ask what he thinks. He will give you a straight answer.

I would do one at a time myself. Putting both in the same QT with limited hiding spaces just raises the stress level.

Well I was curious so I called them. Mark was not about, but spoke to Mike he agreed that putting these 2 together in QT would be potentially stressful....I don't want to be the evil guy that says don't QT
, but he reiterated this Tusk has been at their facility for quite awhile and used the phrase "pretty much bullitproof at this point" to describe him. I know how much freight is, and if you get the 2 together, it's free shipping and you still get the 10% off if you do them together.....
Throw the Tusk in the tank and QT the Wrasse.

Ok I said it.
I need a disclaimer of some sort now.

Hey Kirk ! Thanks for making the call. They are very helpful. I call around 4:30 eastern time, and I was able to talk to Mark.
He's a super guy ! He said the Tusk is about 6in,and is bullet proof. He said putting the Aussie and a large Lime green should be no problem as long as they have hiding places, like PVC. Which I already have in the 55 gal QT. But he strongly recommended me to bleach the QT. He said to remove the biological filtration, which I guess is the two pieces of live rock and the sponges and carbon on my Danner hang-on filter. Leave it like that for a day, then put back the media. I never did that before. What do you guys think-? Do it, then a water change -? Or a water change first -? I'm not sure.I also have some of that black algae, that sticking to some parts of the sand and rocks. What is it-?
