Hey guys ! Even before I posted up the question, I already took all the rock out and brought the salt down to 1.009.
. So should I just go through Hypo. -? Or bring back the salt up slowly -? Thanks !

Now that you got it down to 1.009 and all the fish are doing fine, I would just go ahead with the full hypo treatment.

Hey guys ! Its like 43 days now, so I'm ready to bring back up the salt. How should I do it-? Mix up 20 gallons of 1.022 and remove 20 gallon -? Do it every day, or every other day-? I'm not sure. Thanks !

Be prepared to mix a lot of salt! The way I did it is 5 gal at a time (for a 45gal QT), but I dripped the new salt water in over 10 hours. You want to raise the salt very slowly, that's the key.

Maybe I'm off on my days or you started earlier, but if you dropped the salinity on the 2/13, according to post #161, that only makes for 2 weeks in hypo, tomorrow.

Hey guys ! Its been a while, as usual. I 'm just a busy mechanic nowadays, sorry I've been missing out on a lot on the forums.
Hope all is well ! Yep, I have my math all screwed up. Today is 23 days, I started on 2/16. But I think I have a major problem right now,
. I bought a refractometer last week, and I tested the water, and I got a reading of 1.014. I double and triple checked. I also checked my trash can with the rocks, and its at 1.025. Stupid me, I was using one of the pointer testers from Coralife. Boy, do I feel like a fool. All the fishes are doing great, but I totally screwed up the Hypo

WHAT SHOULD I DO NOW -?

I'm afraid you'll have to start the countdown again since ich only dies at 1.009 or 1.010

You'd have to raise your salt to normal levels before doing copper. It's not advisable to do copper and hypo at the same time.

I would go to 1.020 then treat with cupramine. there is no need to raise salinity to 1.024 in a fowlr tank unless you get inverts. this happened to me in Jan-08 but i hypo the tank plus left if fallow for eight weeks. the tank has been doing great since then ... I cant stress enought the importance QT, QT, QT!! good luck

thanks R and Pete. Maybe I'll go with the cupramine route. So I'll bring up the salt slowly to 1.020 then treat with cupramine, but for how long ? Also how do I mantain it ? Thanks guys

Hey guys ! Anymore input on the cupramine. I'm ready to bring back the salt to 1.020. I have a new batch of saltwater ready to go. What I'll do, is take 5 gallons of water from the display and add a bucket of 1.024 everyday, until the level reaches 1.020. Is that ok -? My LFS, told me that I should just leave my salt at 1.014 since all the fishes are doing ok. But I ask him about my rock, and he said it will be a little die off. I don't understand why he would say that -? I mean everybody is doing fine. I'm just confused

I've used cupramine before but in a QT and it was pretty easy to keep the levels right. I just checked every day and adjusted as needed. But it was pretty stable. I did this for 3 weeks. Never tried running it in a DT.
I wouldn't leave the levels at 1.014 The fish may be fine now, but they won't be for long term at this level.

Thanks Pete ! So I'll bring the salt back at 1.020 and then dose with Cupramine. But for how long -? And how do I check the readings for it-?

You need to buy the right test kit. For Cupramine, you need to buy the Seachem Copper kit. As for how long, I did it for 3 weeks but I'm not sure for how long you need to do it for a DT with LS.

Because of having LS and LR in the system they will soak up the copper so it will be harder to keep it at a stable level.

Salifert copper test kit can also be used to read cupramine.. just remember you cannot have any inverts in this tank if you use cupramine. the best chioce is to use a qt but i guess you have no choice. Also test for ammonia periodically just in case your bio filter is affected.
