Honestly that is the worse part of working acrylic is banging it up......I find that when I get the sheets home I like to tape the edges of the sheets with that delicate (blue) painters tape, and anywhere I see a nick or cut in the paper as well to protect it a bit.....
I have to admit the big sheets aren't easy to handle and maneuver, and it did take a bit of help from friends.....The 1" sucks.....I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy.....Again if you had all industrial tools it would be super easy IMHO, but using regular home tools make the task a bit more tedious. Corey can tell you even with experience working it you second guess and doubt yourself at times. I can't tell you how many times I've called Corey and we've babbled about different techniques and what worked for the other......but honestly with good friends and support anything is possible......Big thing is confidence, practice and good friends!!!!!!
okay you forgot to add in the major 2 components here. 1) beer, gatta have the beer with friends (stay thirsty my friend) and 2) fajitas, share the fajitas with good friends.
ooooooooh the fajitas.
Sorry, I hhave a problem, a fajita addiction, ask anyone.

The second panel is just about finished. Still have a few details yet to finish up but she's ready to test. I've got the flux capacitor all hooked up, time set...just looking for a 1.21 gigawatt power source.

Stay tuned...

OK the last shot are all your lights off in the shop, you are going to fry that algae or produce a new strain of super algae.

Sweet Corey! so much LIGHT
Agreed. I don't know how Meowzers husband can still see after building all those leds. :p

Yep, lights were off, just the leds were on. But to be honest I don't think that they were on 100% there.
My goal here is that I'm kind of going by the new scrubber guidelines of using less amount of screen surface area but with much brighter light. The way it's supposed to work without burning the algae is to utilize 2 shorter photo periods vs 1 long one. So my goal is to run them 6 hours on then 6 hours off and just keep cycling every 6 hours.
With the controller the lights won't be on 100% max intensity the whole time. I'll probably first try having them slowly rise from 0-100% intensity over the first three hours and then gradually go back down. So the really strong blast of light is only for about an hour or so and the rest is slowly fading up and then back down, rising and falling 1% every two minutes or so.
I figure I'll try that out first and see what it gets me.

My guess is the new strain will look like this

Great job on the lights btw. Can't wait to see how they will do on the scrubber
Thanks!
I think I saw something just like that in my 50g the other day...

BAHAHAHA....The worst was testing.....cause you HAVE to look at them
You must be talking about using the little battery tester? Yeah they sent me one but it was way to bright testing with those, I ended up using the diode setting on my meter. It lights them very very dimly. You fry less retina that way.
And just a little FYI, depending on what leds you're using you might want to be careful about using those two AA battery testers. They put 3v of direct current through the leds which exceeds the max rating on the red leds that I used. So make sure to be mindful of that.

Ok.... I really needed that laugh... but 10 pages later and there is still no water. I'm beginning to think I have been seeing a mirage :)

You are...and it's called Regression lol. One step forward and two steps back. I make a little progress and then decide to make more complicated changes that prolong the inevitable. Sometimes I do feel though like it's never going to end. Yet, still I feel no reason why I should rush. When I get to where ever it is I'm going with this build...or IF I even get there...I know I'll be happy when I do (I hope).

Update: I'm kind of on hold at the moment. There's an issue with the controller that I'm using to control the scrubber lights not putting out the proper voltage signal. I was sent a second controller via priority mail and had it within days only to find it was doing the same thing as the first controller. I've been assured that a 3rd controller was personally tested and approved to be working correctly. I should have it in my hands tomorrow and will know more for sure. I hope it's not a driver issue with these LPF's that Meowzer had with her HLG's. That wouldn't be cool.

Hm.... blame meowzer for all LED problems from now on ;)
I hope this controller actually works though!
Ahh ha. I can't really blame Meowzers driver issues on her, that wasn't her fault. I am not apposed to pointing fingers at The Curse though. :)
I really don't think that's what's going on but I'll know more for sure tonight.

Curious!!!!!
It's not good news.
I got the 3rd controller today. It's doing the same thing as the first two. At this point I've already shared several emails with the gentleman at boost. He even told me after I sent him some pictures and voltage readings that the controller was not putting out the proper voltage. So I can't understand why I have a 3rd doing the very same thing.
I've already ran through a zillion tests and checked every aspect of the build from end to end at least a few dozen times. There is nothing wrong on my end. But for some reason the controller won't fully communicated with the LPF drivers. And right know I'm trying to determine if it's a controller issue or a driver issue. I've been speaking a little bit with the guy who has originally designed these controllers. He's not associated with boost. But he knows them better than anybody. If it's a case that it's a controller issue I'll probably hang on to the original and experiment with it a little bit. I'm told there is a good possibility for a fix or probably even expanding the capabilities of the controller a little bit.
That's pretty much where I'm at right now. Kind of hanging in the wind until I hear some more.
