The tank looks good....although I think I would give the eel back...IDK a lot about them, but I think they get PRETTY big, and I'm pretty sure a 55g is too small
I had a flame scallop once...:( They usually don;t last in our tanks....I think they slowly starve to death (sorry) they are pretty though

Yeah...LOL...I think you are limited to fish cause the eel will eat everything...
Do you know what kind of fish you are wanting?

Im not sure.. I know my wife wants some clowns and I like them too, I think I would like a spotted mandarin goby, a sixline wrasse,
What would you suggest?

I love clowns, I have 2 in my 54G, and 2 in my 225G
I also have a 6line in my 54G and a spotted mandarin in my 225G :)
ONE THING....Do not get a mandarin until your tank is much older, and you are sure you can supply it with an abundance of copepods.....having a refugium will help that.
I just got a flame hawk for my 54G, I have a firefish, and 2 yellow clown gobies
IDK what you like, lol, so what I like really doesn't matter haha

I agree the eel is too big, but it’s awesome looking. I really like the rock work.
Especially the caves, I made two in my 90g. Caves are great for a reef because not all coral likes those bright lights and caves allow for a nice verity. Well I am not sure if you intend to go with coral, but I love them and hope you give it a try.
I’m glad you posted, it looks like a great start. Keep those pictures and go back and look at them in a year, you will be delighted at the change, it’s a great way to document where you started from.

Thanks a lot. I am going to try some Corals, but I am on a limited budget. (which I know is a not a good thing) My LFS said they would give me $100 for the eel, so I think sometime next week I am going to take him out. Again, thanks for making me post!

What is your substrate????
Your tank may be too new for the star.....
I think you have too much on the bottom...are those shells? I would clear a spot or 2

its a corse substrate, like shells mixed with sand... i got it for free with the tank.
The starfish seems to be doing well, what should I look for if he isnt?
I know I was thinking that I needed to clear some room of the bottom, its just difficult to work in there with the damn eel.... (I cant wait to get rid of him) When I do sometime next week, Ill do some aquascaping for sure..

in the 4th picture?? is that an aptasia or polyp??
The star isnt reef safe, just so you know. It will eat corals
nice start. Once you take the eel out, I would also take out the black tubes.
Clean up some of the bigger shells from your sand, and pile them behind your rocks for pod hideouts. The pods will produce better in places they can hide away from fish.
Good luck

I think its aptasia... which two people have told me to get rid of....
I just found out that he was not reed safe, I am going to trade him in too when I take the eel out. I was planning on taking out those pipes as well...

So I took my eel out of my tank today. It was sort of bitter sweet to see him go. He was my first real fish, but I am excited to start towards a reef/fish set up. I took out the PVC pipes that the eel loved so much and redid my aquascape. I added 40 lbs of new live sand. I did not buy anything fish/inverts today b.c my nitrates were high. I did a 20g water change and will add some livestock next week or so.
Let me know what you think....

That eel was pretty cool, but huge :(
I love the new aquascape! It looks much better, and I love that branching rock! All the rock I got are like boulders
