IMO Bobby Jindal needs to take control even without the federal permits. Get his National Guard down there with equipment and start building the berms. What are the feds gonna do, send down a war ship to start shooting? Excellent time for a state to show its legal powerresponsibility and let the feds try to stop it in the courts, or however they determine they want to.
Make for some good news footage too!

Your argument is a personal attack to my intellegence.

I tend to agree, if they're not gonna do it, eff em. You know. Legally I don't think he is supposed to.

Legally no ... but I can't see him getting into trouble for it. Is he just waiting for the "ok" or is he wanting federal money to cover the costs?

The feds have told him that it is a federal matter and won't give people the permits to do what they want to do. Army corp of Engineers need to issue permits for them to build the berms and they won't, but the core is also not building them so what the heck.
I say do it Bobby, protect your state and let the chips fall where they may. Feds are just dragging their feet here.

Actually BP will have to pick up the costs. I am sure it will be called a federal clean up, and likely blamed for next years increase in the deficit but BP is required to pay every cent.

He gave a speech today, saying, that there is no sense of urgency from the feds, and is asking for the decision making power, so he can go address the problems. The feds had told him, this is a federal matter.
At some point, you have to say screw em, lets go fix it... Maybe (and this is just supposition) he feels a turf war would be counterproductive? I dunno. He has a state guard, probably no boats, he can't go out and rent them, because they're probably already in use by the feds, and BP. BP can't buck the system, and say we're following the state, because that would be really bad. So, you know. As much as he would want to run things, it just may not be possible. But like I said this is all supposition. I have no real proof for any of this.

Yeah gotta remember too this is a 2012 presidential hopeful. If he bucks the system and fails that looks bad, but if he bucks the system and comes out on the good side he is probably the hero and possible shoe in.

If Jindal could get some support/cooperation from the other governors, I'd bet he'd do it. Just I know Bob Riley is way too straight laced, and Crist won't.,,

I'd give it some time to bleed off pressure and try to kill it again. There is really nothing else they can do at this point.

this whole thing makes me anxious.....really! Pelicans, dolphins, fish, reefs, more fish, more reefs UGH!! BP, Haliburton, TransOcean, millions of $$$$$ ....who cares....this is a mess. drill here, drill there, it doesn't matter, make it work right. This shouldn't happen ANYwhere , ANYtime. The evnironment does not deserve it. People/politicians are making millions, FIX this. This rig had many complaints/problems over looked. How many other rigs have the same problem. HUGE hurricane season coming up, it only takes one BIG mother of a hurricane to take one of these rigs out and we can have another issue on our hands. We need another shut off........away from the rigSSS itself. PERIOD

This is really bothering me.
Next:
BP's next option is cutting the pipe underwater and fitting a containment valve over the leak. Obama said in a statement the procedure is risky and has never been tried at 5,000 feet underwater
. It could take from four to seven days before the success is known.
There's that disclosure again that I am tired of seeing.

Hurricanes have hit the oil rigs before, that is no thing. They have that figured out. There is also a way to prevent this from happening again. The drilling ban is just political posturing, other countries already require that remove valve, they could take a day to change that regulation and solve the problem but instead lest spend a bunch of other peoples money to hold months worth of hearings with people who were sleeping when the accident happened called in to testify before congress.
