Luv.....you could keep them clean, but that is an extra chore to add to the list....We wouldn't be talking at water changes, but tops every other day depending on condensation or spray.....Even your MH bulbs should be wiped down during water changes.....Not saying the glass itself will cut the penetration, but buildup on the glass will.

Well, this morning, I had to experiment and see for myself if leds would make that big of a difference on my 180g. I took the 60w cree fixture off my nano and held it above my 180, in each section. The colors pop and fluorescence from the blues, and IT IS INSANE!!! Every single coral fluoresces. LEDs are now a must on this tank lol.

I think that even on the clearest glass you're still losing about a minimum of 5% light transmition. If I remember right starphire or low-e glass has right around the same transparency as acrylic which is about 92%. Since light waves bend and refract as they pass through the solid material it filters and even slows the wavelengths down a bit. So yeah, youu do lose some light through glass. Infact glass covers are highly recommended over halides and plasma lighting to help filter out some of the dangerous ultra voilet wavelengths.

So, do you guys think the apollo solarblast actired is a good fixture or not? I am highly considering buying three for the 180g with their controller.
