Aquascaping...Confused...please help?

Any spray paint will do. Most people do background in blues or black. Actually the back should be done before water is added to tank. Something to think about ...

I would increase your cuc numbers to at least 50 to 75 critters.
I would suggest you add cleanup crew slowly. Don't add them until you have something for them to eat or they'll die. Add them until you finally have enough to take care of everything. No sense wasting money (or lives) killing little critters.
I like the aquascape so far and can't wait to see a new picture.
I would recommend keeping enough space on the tank sides between the glass and rocks to clean. Otherwise, you're going to have areas on the sides (that you'll eventually want to see through) you can't clean.
Otherwise, nice so far!

I used latex paint that I bought in Walmart. It is like a Caribean blue. I bought one of those small paint trays that came with a small roller about 3 or 4" (same place). It took a few coats. Just let the paint dry between coats. Good Luck.

IMO, you have enough LR. Many hobbyists get too much LR and then end up with a tank with a lot of live rock, and some corals. Rather, you want a reef tank upon which corals will be cultivated with plenty of room to grow. If you go diving at a reef, are looking at the live rock, or the reef?
Point made.

I too like the scape in the first pictures. As you add corals they normally come on rocks and such which will add to the overall. Yes please lose the background, looks tacky IMO. You are gonna love your lights. Rock looks a little bare right now but with time some of that coralline will start to take off.
NOW ON TO THE PICTURES!

The background is ok, if he likes it. Soon the back wall will be covered anyway so it doesn't matter. Ideally, you want to graph some zoos, etc., on the back wall, so it will basically be covered with softies and algae. Unless you just like the clean look.

It looks very nice. Just be sure you dnt have any fish that like to bury in the sand, they will dig under and tumble your rocks. I have pvc under mine so I can have an eng goby

Thank you! it took a lot of time...and aquamend...but I think I like it for the time being...when I finally have my own house and a bigger tank
I will for sure do that! But for now...I don't think I'll have any "digging, or sand burrowing" fish!!

I had 3 seperate islands but I had a flat piece and a few other pieces, so I though what the heck! I'll just make this these two islands two!

Amy,
Very Nice! Think you're going to really like the island effect when you start getting good coral growth and the fish are swimming around and through the islands its pretty cool! Nice job.

Thank you!! I like this MUCH better!!! The only thing I don't like is in a few places you are able to see some of the aquamend where I put the pieces together to ensure stability....Will coraline algae cover that up with time?

Yep, once the coralline begins to grow it will encrust and cover all the sort of stuff and you won't even be able to tell it was there.

Yeah..I'm not that thrilled with the background either....I'm going to try to find a black one until I can get it covered with coraline algae and zoas
