I also will have a much bigger power bill than you

Especially where we live come two months from now. Your tank looks great btw.

Thanks for the input SCS. Appreciate all the help, I think this two tank set up will work nicely, and I'm implementing ball valves for control of flow through the fuge.

Thanks, I like how it turned out. The power bill is the reason I'm in no big hurry.
I can hold off on the clams and anemones for a while.

Do you want to know what 1 inch looks like in the salt water hobby?
This:

CPR box wasn't exactly the measurements I got on the internet. Lesson learned. Had to drain the whole tank to move it one inch. Took about an hour and a half. Time to get the glass baffles cut and siliconed, then I have some plumbing to do!

I'd like to see how that sump system works out, I just realized over the week end that I couldn't jam a 55 gallon tank in my stand, I was just thinking about using a 29 and hoping for the best but if yours works out, (I don't see why it wouldn't) I'll have to try in myself. How much did the glass hole saws cost?

I paid $30.00 online, and I'm pretty pumped about the set up, I think it will be even easier to manage than one sump. Especially since I have two 1" bulkheads on my overflow,

The return/skimmer tank drilled w/ bulkhead:

The refugium tank drilled with bulkhead:

As soon as the second baffle is dry enought to remove the coasters underneath (kept it exactly one inch off the bottom of the tank) I'll silicon in the third one later today, and then wait for it to cure for two days.

Surprisingly, drilling the glass was quick and easy.
Question for the pros out there:
Should I permanently attach the bulkheads to the tank, or just do the hand tight deal until they don't drip? I would assume the 2nd option.

I don't permanently attach them myself. Hand tight is usually enough. However, if you want a better seal, gak up the rubber washer on both sides with GE Silicon I, Window/Door or AGA Aquarium Sealant, and tighten as normal.
This will make getting the bulkhead off later on a bit more difficult, but it is possible to clean up the glass with a razor blade if need be.

My current intentions are to have the sump/fuge functional by Friday night. :scared: This will be a lot of plumbing in the next two nights while the sump is curing. The reason I want this done is because I have next Monday off, and I want to schedule it so the live rock arrives Monday, accomodated with a bag or two of live sand for the fuge's DSB. Wish me luck. I'll take some photos.

This takes forever.

Changed the background to black, I like it better.

I have 2/3 of the plumbing done.

Tomorrow night is the water test of the sump tank, and plumb the return. I'll be in business!

By the way this green sponged wall is an accent wall, its the only one in the room like that. lol. just thought about how bad a whole room would look like this.

The black looks nicer IMO.

Wasn't going to say anything about the wall, but since you mentioned it......

The sump is all drilled with the baffles in place, yes. The plumbing is as far as the pictures show, I will water test the baffles tonight, and finish the plumbing tomorrow. I'll post pics over the weekend once its all up and running. Wish me luck.

Good luck, counting on your trial and error to prevent problems when I attempt to do the same. ")
