Azfishgal New Tank Diary!

It is wierd but I have never Qt anything I have put in my DT. I guess I have just been blessed. When I put my blue tang in it broke out in some ick but then it just went away. I figured it was stressed but then got a handle on things. Then about a year later I added a yellow tang and both tangs broke out but then again it cleared up like 2 days later. I can't explain it but I kinda wonder if the cleaner shrimp had anything to do with it. But non of the other 12 fish even suffered at all. It was crazy.

Well.....to late.
They are in the DT now. But the rock two of them were on was the size of a quarter and two polyps I had to glue directly onto the rock, as they came off the quarter size rock. Sooooooo, we'll see. (crossing fingers). Of course I can't see them in my 125 unless I stick my nose to the glass.
I'll take pics tomorrow and post them.

The fish gods must be watching over you.

OK, here are some pics I took over the last few days.
This first one was from sitting on the floor. As I was messing with the sump I looked up and just thought it looked pretty neat, so I took a few pics. Here's the best one.

This was just a lucky shot. Thought it turned out pretty good.

Better pics of MY FIRST CORALS!!!! These zoos are called BackDrafts. It's not really wanting to open up all the way because it took some time to get this little guy glued to the rock.

This one is called Nean Green. (Sorry it's blury, best I could do.)

And this last one is called Plum People Eater.

I now have in my QT a new Diamond Goby (keep your fingers crossed this one makes it) and well........the lfs was having a 20% off on all their corals, sooooooo I had to pick up some Green Star Polyp. I know, I know, grows like crazy, but my husband really liked it so I thought why not. If it gets out of hand I told him I would have his head.
They are taking their time to open up, so when they are in full bloom I'll take some pics, along with my new Goby.

I finally get coral in my tank and no one has anything to say?

Update on my Goby; He's still alive! :cheer: But there is a problem. I was supposed to get a Diamond Goby, but when I got him home and put him in my DT I noticed he looked a little different. I compared him to my last Diamond Goby and noticed this was NOT a Diamond Goby, but an Orange Spotted Goby.
So now I have to call the lfs AGAIN, and see if I can trade him in for what I was supposed to get.

Good luck switching out the goby.
I have the new Goby. It's not a Diamond Goby as they didn't have any, so I settled for the Yellowhead Sleeper Goby. He's acclimating right now, so as soon as he's in the QT I'll take pics of him, plus the new green star polyp.

I love the zoo frags. I've got a rather large order from the same place that should arrive this wednesday! I'm really excited for the safecracker3's and the kalidesopes. :D
Overall, great job with the tank. It's looking great!

I have a yellowhead sleeper! They're really a fun fish. He'd be my complete favorite fish if he didn't dump sand on all my rocks every once and awhile. >.<

The Sleeper Goby is now in the QT and as you can see making a mess of things.
I was under the impression they stayed closer to the sand when they released the sand, OOOPS! But, I still like this little guy. Of course I say that now, until he covers all my rocks with sand in the DT.
Oh well. Does anyone know if Diamond Gobies are pretty much the same way, or do they stay closer to the sand bed when they release it?
The last picture is my Green Star Polyp. It was in my QT but it didn't look like it was doing to well, so I got scared and moved it into my DT. Of course now I see it has bubble algea
and something else attached to the rock. It's to the far left, any idea what that is? It looks like a zoo with long tentacles. I'll take another picture once it opens up, I just moved it in.

So what do you feed your sleeper?

Hey there. I feed him between, mysis, squid, and he'll grab up pieces of silversides when I feed the anemone and my coral banded shrimp. He's a glutton and gets fed daily. You'll be able to see if they're not getting enough food. Yours looks absolutely great, his stomach is nice and fat, under fed ones look skinny. But as far as I know all the gobies in the valencienna family are known for sand dumping even at higher levels. I've noticed the better fed they are the less likely for the messyness.
Oh and as for the hitchiker on the green stars, looks just like a majano from what I can see, but i'd need a better vantage point before making a real guess. Glad to be of help!

Majano? What is that? Good or bad?
I'll try and turn the rock and get a better picture of it. Polyps still havn't opened up since I put it in the DT.

So what are they? And yes, I know I have bubble algea on this rock as well. I used to have some on another rock, but it's since disappeared. Do you think my emerald crabs got to it? Kind of hoping they will get to these bubbles. If not, what's the best way to get rid of them. It's very easy for me to take this rock out so should I take it out and just pull the bubble algea off along with the hitchhikers?

Not sure about the hitchers but the bubble algae can be physically removed but careful not to pop it. I think I have 2-3 small ones already starting to grow but I can't really tell yet. It may be something different.
Hey if I remember right you cycled your QT with LR is that correct? If so I'd like to pick your brain. I am cyclinmg my QT with LR and the water is a mess. Levels are good but I've got dirt/algae/dieoff something clouding up my water. It's very annoying. I installed another small whisper filter and used the carbon pouch and it has gotten a little better. Did you have this problem? Anything to resolve it? Friday will mark week 3 of my cycle and I want my water to be cleared up when I add my clowns. Thanks

Not sure how uncured your rock is, but mine was uncured for sure. I actually rinsed my rock in salt water before putting it in my QT, then after a few days and seeing the water get bad I took the rock out again and picked off as much die off as possible, even used a tooth brush and scrubbed the sucker (it smelled bad). Once my Ammonia level got up around 4.0 I started to do water changes. Some people say not to during the cycle period, but IMO you don't want the ammonia to get to high or whatever live stuff you have on your rock will die. I would also use a Turkey baster to suck up the dirt/dieoff and use a very fine mesh to strain the water, then I'd put the water (without the dirt/dieoff) back into the tank. Just turn your pumps off and let the dirt/dieoff settle and then suck it up. Once I did all this my water cleared up pretty quickly. Good luck and let me know how it goes.
(I took my rock out just before adding my first fish.)

Thanks, I kinda figured that's where I'd be. I'm a little over 2 weeks into my cycle and my Amm hasn't topped 0.2 and is now at zero. I'm pretty sure it's my diatoms that are coming off the rock and is suspended all over the tank. I'm hoping the carbon filter that I added will have done the trick by the time I get home. Thanks again.

The funny thing with my QT was I didn't have a Diatom problem until after I took out the rock and added fish.
Maybe it's because my ammonia level got so high it just couldn't survive.
My rock was really uncured, so that's why my Ammonia levels spiked so high, yours probably won't, since it's already back to 0.
