I have my base rock on the glass bottom and I put the sand around it, so half of the base rock is under the sand. I then put my lr on the base rock.

Oh, and thanks for the comps. I tried to make sure I did my homework before taking this on, and so far so good.

This is the third day my Gramma is flashing. So I'm starting to lower the Salinity for Hypo. He's 3 week QT period is up on Tuesday, BUT even if he shows no other signs I'm keeping him in for another 5 days. If he does start showing signs of ich, or something else, then I'll have to start the 3 week Hypo.
I know some people say healthy fish don't need to be Hypo, but after this being my second case of having a fish in QT for almost 3 weeks, only to have to do Hypo which means another 4 weeks in QT, I've decided to just Hypo every fish that comes in. My next fish will be the Hippo Tang and you better believe I'm going to Hypo that one. So, it looks like adding another fish to my DT is going to take a little longer.

in some of my experiences it is just best not to hypo or qt at all. i mean u qt for 4wks in a way way small tank then u hypo for another 3wks i mean that alone is enough to kill the fish. if ur lfs is flexible you should ask them to reserve the fish that u want and come back in like 3-4wks in that time if no diseases have came up then u no its safe to put in ur dt.

Actually I disagree on several points. I've decided to Hypo all fish so that they are not in QT so long, only 4 weeks as apposed to 7 weeks (QT 3 weeks....oops fish is sick...QT/Hypo another 4 weeks), this eliminates them being in a QT to long. Keeping the fish at the lfs won't help, because they will always have new fish coming in and bringing new parasites with them, as most of the tanks share the same water. And last, most new fish do well when QT by themselves, gives them a chance to settle down and gives you time to learn your fishes behaviors. As far as the tank being to small, it's not for 1" fish, even 3" fish will be fine for a few weeks. However, I do plan to get a larger tank, so when my now small fish grow, they will have a larger QT if needed in the future.
I do appreciate your feedback though. Discussions like this are always helpful.

coming along nicely!
I know I'm a tard for doing it but after removing every fish to treat ich once, new fish (even though I dont plan anymore) are profilacticly medicated while in quarantine. 3wks of culpramine. all my fish have been exposed to it and didn't seem to affect them negatively in any way. heard way too many cases of the fish was healthy and doing great 4wks in quarantine then on the 5th week in the display with 300lbs of live rock got ich and I cant get it out. Now anyone who can quarantine for a full 8wks is good because 3wks is pretty tuff for me although the last two weeks are much easier than the 1rst.

well we all have our diffrent methods. the good thing about my lfs is that they have isolation tanks so i can just say hey i want that blue hippo can u isolate it for 4wks and he says yes. thats y i was saying if u can ask ur lfs to do that. (they should because of all the money you have spent lol)

That's why I have decided to Hypo for three weeks (4 weeks in QT because of time to lower and then raise the salinity). Parasites won't be able to survive the 1.009 salinity for that long. The only way to get rid of ich in your DT, is to let it run "fishless" for 6 weeks (8 weeks would even be better). Ich needs a hosts and if there is none it won't survive.

This is actually a good idea, I just never asked because from what I can see all their tanks are connected. BUT, won't hurt to ask though, the next time I'm in.

The doors are finally on the stand and WOW! What a difference it makes.
Actually looks like a real nice piece of furniture. My husband said he'll start taking orders.

Now it's time for the canopy. Hopefully that won't take as long as I should be getting my new MHs today.

Here are a few more pics of the doors, upclose (for those of you who like this sort of thing).

And yes, I will post pics of the canopy during construction.

I know....I went back and forth so many times I was getting dizzy. After comparing prices it was going to cost a lot more to cover my 6' tank with T5s, plus my husband really wanted the "shimmer" look. I told him if the lights raised the temp to much we might have to get a chiller (which of course would even out the price if we were to get T5s). Then in talking with Azaintcold he has the same lights and after adding fans his temp actually went down 2 degrees, so I figured I'd give it a try. I'm going to see if I can get away with only two lights, instead of three, to cut down on cost and heat. We'll see how it looks. If I don't like it I can always buy a third light.

WOW!!!! I can't believe how great it looks!!! The stain is really a beautiful color. And it looks like a professionally made, and very expensive, piece of furniture!
(Gosh, I miss my cheering smiley!
) I'm glad to see you finally got your doors.
I've been more of a "lurker" than a "poster" lately, but I have been watching your thread and your tank is coming along nicely. Very nice looking frogspawn, btw.
My 6 gallon is still cycling, which surprises me because I got the rock from a tank that was taken down, and I added some water from my other tank to help cut down on cycling time. I can't wait to get my softies tank going!
