My father-in-law made the canopy doors at the same time he made the doors for the stand, so we are all set.

All I can say about that is the 100 lbs of lr I bought from SWF already had some good purple growth on them, and then I have kept my calcium at 420. I am a little concerned what the purple coraline will do when I fire up the MHs. I hope I don't bleach them out.
I'm going to acclimate very slowly so hopefully it won't be to bad.

I have two 250w mh on my 75g and if i don't clean the glass I have pea sized purple coraline algae all over it in three days. so i don't think you have to worry. just keep your cal. and alk. up like you have.

Ah, gee thanks! Canopy hasn't changed since the last pictures because hubby has been working, but he's off tomorrow (and the rest of the week) so hopefully we'll have it up by the end of the week, with my new MHs!
(My youngest daughter has her 5th birthday party this weekend and family is coming into town, so that might delay it a bit. Can't believe she's turning five!

We ran into a problem with our canopy. Husband bought some more stain, same exact name as the one we used on the stand, red mahogany. However, once it was all done we realized it looked a little different. So we took one of the doors and walked it into the house to compare to the stand. It was totally different. The new stain had no red in it at all, looked more like walnut.
Sooooo, he is going to have to restain it.
We are also going out of town for a few days on Thursday, so we might have to hold off adding the MHs until we get back. I'm a bit nervous about having them on when I'm out of town, especially since it will be the first time my tank has had MHs and it still needs to go through the acclimation process. So looks like I'll have to be patient a little while longer.

That stinks!!! I would hold out on the lights too, until you get back from your trip. When I added my halides I ran them for 2 hours the first week, then 4 hours the next week, and so on. Everything did great, except the BTA. It bleached big time, but is now regaining its color.....2 1/2 months later.

Like Anomone mentioned, turn them on for only a few hours and increase the time every week until you are where you want to be. You can also have a few screens between the light and tank and then take one screen off every week or so. You can kill a lot of your corals if not all if your tank is like mine, under lower lights and then blast them with 250W MHs, so acclimating the tank is very important.

Well, I don't have a BTA, so I should be ok. The corals I have right now are frogspawn, torch (will have to lower him to the bottom before turning on the MHs), Xenia, Kenya Tree, mushrooms, zoos, GSP, and open brain. I would hate for something to happen to my tank while my friend is baby sitting it, so yes, I'll wait to hook up the MHs after I get home.
The last time I left my tank it was for a week, but it only had the clean up crew in it, so not much could go wrong. Now I have all these corals and fish, but I'll only be gone for 4 days, so hopefully everything will be ok. I'll do a water change just before leaving and I'll have the food sorted out in Dixie Cups to make sure the tank is not over fed. My worst fear is the power going out. It's been running 112 degrees here in the Phoenix area.
As a matter of fact, I had a big scare just a few days go. It was about 10am in the morning, but still over 100 degrees at this point and my power went out. Now before this hobby my reaction would be "time to hit the pool" or "lets go to the mall" but not this time around. My first thought......THE TANK!!!! Luckily the power was only out for 1/2 hour but boy, it made me think what would I do in case of a power outage. I do have some back up plans if it does, BUT if I'm gone and my sitter is only coming over once or twice a day, I don't want to even think what could happen if the power goes out.
Lets just have positive thoughts that it won't.

How was your trip? But more importantly how's the tank?

When is your Hippo going into the DT? I looked back on the page where it was but there wasn't a date...
Anyways your tank looks great!

Trip was great and all fish were doing well when I returned.
I'm now starting to raise the salinity in Dory's tank, so she will be in the DT by the end of the week.
We have also fixed the stain issue with the canopy. It now matches the stand, so once the finishing coat goes on we can mount the MHs and add the canopy. It should all be completed by the end of the week.

Mixed reef. I want to try some SPS, but won't add those for probably another four months or so. I want to make sure I can keep my tank well balanced once all the fish are added.
I'm done adding my softies and LPS, there really is no more place to put them. All my available space that's left has to much flow, so I'm hoping the SPS will do good in thos areas.
