Things are moving right along. My husband has been working all day and this is what he has done so far.
He's now working on mounting the ballasts.
Finished Canopy

Top of Canopy

Looking up from the bottom.

Front View

Socket secured so it won't weigh down the reflector.

Thanks Brandon. I have two 250W MHs 14K with Lumincar reflectors (I'll be adding moon lights soon). I just placed an order here at SWF for three Lyretail Anthias (1 male, 2 females) so Dory is going in the DT VERY soon. Salinity is at 1.020 so we are close.

WOW!!!!! What a difference!!! I can't believe I have gone this long without my MHs! I LOVE THEM!!!
These pictures actually make them look more blue than what it really is. The fish are awesome looking and now I can see every single coral, even the little tiny zoos. We will be putting some small strip panels on the canopy doors so the light does not go through, and we have to also add moon lights. But, for the most part we are done. I will only be running the MHs for about an hour tonight and then all lights will be off until tomorrow around 10am. I'll run my T5s most of the day and turn the MH's on for about an hour at around 5pm or so, then turn them off, keeping my T5s on until the normal night shut down.

I'm so excited now!!!!!
Can you tell?!

IMO a canopy finishes off any tank, no matter what the size. I even saw one for a 5 gallon tank, it looked really cool.
It sat on the person's desk.

Agree with you Brandon, but IMO SWF.com has some very reliable anthias. I myself ordered 4 anthias from here and they ate and no DOA. It has been almost 2 weeks, and they are eating everything I put on the tank. I believe that SWF fishes are very healthfull and excellent condition.....
Azn girl, looking good.....
, those Lumenarc are really nice....Maybe I should buy some L reflectors, but my canopy is so low, and I am really not a DIY guy.......

Glad to hear your Anthias are doing well. I figured since SWF had the 14 day guarantee it was worth the risk. My lfs only has female anthias and they are $36 dollars. I figured those fish are shipped as well and I wanted to add a male at the same time, so I went ahead and went with SWF. We'll see how it goes. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks. It's finally starting to look like a "show" tank. After the Hippo Tang, the three Anthias, Sailfin, and Yellow tang go in I'll then try some SPS. I'll start with one and see how it does after a month or so. If it's still alive then I'll try another one.

Nice setup, I like the cave region you have in the lower left where it looks like your cleaner shrimps are hanging out. Your whole tank looks well thoughtout and put together.

Thanks for noticing. I have done a lot of research with everything I've put in my tank, including fish, coral, powerheads, pumps, skimmers, and of course the lighting. It's starting to pay off as it's finally coming together. It's been a long process but well worth it.
That cave region is one of my favorite areas too. The shrimp pretty much stayed their when I turned on the MHs. I think they were needing sunglasses.
They did venture out though when I put some mysis shrimp in, they can never say no to food.

Alright, The stand was bought at walmart like 4 years ago. Its in great shape. Im not sure how to match it because it has a different style then what wood would give. I will give the canopy a try

If the stand is not made of real wood then it might be hard to match. BUT, you can always paint the stand and canopy to match.
