if every player is "looking for that edge", then how come Bonds is the ONLY player that has mysteriously gotten BETTER in old age as opposed to young age?
his godfather is willie mays that could be a factor here, look at dave eckersley, nolan ryan kirby puckett, pete rose etc. they all got better with age brett farve ronnie lott terry bradshaw...tobin

Most of that's kind of a stretch. Mays and Bonds don't actually share any DNA (as far as I know). Eckersley got better when he got more experienced, but not old. Same with Ryan. Puckett actually had to retire pretty young, so we'll never know. Rose... Ugh, don't bring up Rose.

That really made no sense whatsoever.
Ummmm..... not one of those got better with age except for eckersley(and that was in a completely different role!)! In fact, All of them were greats who declined SIGNIFICANTLY as they got older......unlike the CHEATER

Yeah, but I don't how involved Mays has really been. If anything, I think Bonds learned more from his dad when he was the hitting coach.

Bonds got better in old age because Willie Mays was his godfather? hmmm, Pete Rose was Pete Rose Jr's REAL father and Jr didn't last too long in the majors. Tony Gwynn is the REAL father of Tony Gwynn Jr and I'm not sure if Tony Jr has ever even made it out of the minors, and Tony Sr is one of the best pure hitters ever.
also, Cecil Fielder is the REAL father of Prince Fielder, and they are both quite rotund and can both hit homers so there's SOME linkage in that one at least.

of course there has to be an american league team that would want to waste a roster spot and a ton of money on him, and I'll believe that when I see it.

it's all theoretical or you can just call it gifted who knows for sure, and i did not say he got better because willie mays is his godfather but it couldn't hurt also the fact that pitching is not what it was with expansion teams since aarons day there are a lot of things that play into the jist of things...tobin

All I gotta say is that they all are on freaking roids and baseball knows it and they don't do jack about it. I just saw a guy today that was caught a third time using a substance that was band and he is out 80 games!? 3 times and just 80 games? Ban them, and it just isnt just hitters, pitchers are using them also. I also think its retarded to compare people like the babe and now a days cause EVERYTHING is different.

Just another reason to ignore baseball I guess. I cant believe the commissioner is too gutless to add an *. Face it, whether by accident or on purpose Bonds got an unfair advantage. The fact he is such a punk just makes it worse.

This is ridiculous.
Has Bonds been convicted of use?..NO

He said, she said means squat.
The man tied a record for Pete's sake.

Too bad you couldn't have grabbed the ball. Or did you? Throw a couple of SWF bucks our way if you did!
Pretty cool to watch some history go down.

It sucks that Bonds tied the record.. Personally, I was hoping someone would hit him on the hands with a pitch to take him out for a bit, but what are you gonna do

I wanted more than anything for Bonds to not break this record. Yes, partially because he took steroids, but who didn't see that coming. Everyone knew Hank's record would get cracked eventually, and in this day, its inevitable that its going to be beaten with the help of steroids.
The thing that really bothers me is that Bonds is just an all-around crappy person. He's got a reputation for being an ass, and he couldn't care less... Fans, teammates, anyone- no one seems to merit an ounce of his respect.
He shrunk his balls to hit others out of the park... good for him. Not exactly what I would justify as a fair trade, but hey, to each his own.
But on one final note, even though it sucks that Bonds beat the record, I give it six years before A-Rod (another 'roid user) shatters his record and takes Bonds out of the limelight.

Considering you're apparently a Bonds fan I'm not surprised you don't see the problem in betting on your own sport.

I can't wait for someone (a-rod or anyone elso) that is not a roid user to take this record from bonds, he does not deserve to be in the record books. Roids are an illegal drug. It has not been "proven" that he juiced but in all honesty you know he did. Look at his 1986 baseball card he weighed a buck seventy, roiding, cheatin piece of trash

Barry Bonds has been my favorite player for years, like others said, dating back to him on the Pirates squad with Bonilla, Van Slyke, Jay Bell, Drabek, etc.
I am VERY happy that he has at least tied the record and am anxious for him to break the record.
Now on to the subject of him using banned drugs. In my heart of hearts, i do believe he used a banned substance, considering he did say that he used the "cream" and the "clear". Whether he knew what he was taking, none of us will EVER know. I can understand a professional athlete just taking meds, creams, liquids, etc. that is given to them by other PROFESSIONAL trainers and such without asking in detail what it will do for them. Barry was almost assuredly given the answer that the cream and clear would help his muscles recover faster, this is what i beieve. I would probably have taken it also. No questions asked, considering when i personally work out, i NEVER not stop getting sore after workouts. I am always sore, even a year after initially working out. Sorry, got sidetracked....
Anyway, i see a lot of people hoping and wishing for A Rod to break Barry's soon-to-be homerun record. In my opinion A Rod is a user himself. As with all of the Barry critics, just look at A Rod's rookie pictures and you WILL see how much bigger he is now than when he was when he first entered the league. Also, how come A Rod is no longer a 40/40 guy anymore?? Oh, that's because he got a little too big to steal some bases... as did Barry. A Rod is juicing or has juiced just like a vast majority of MLB players. Don't kid yourself!!
And last but not least. Just because Barry has never been a darling of the press shouldn't minimize his accomplishments or accolades. If you really look at his home runs, he only had ONE year where the numbers looked suspicious, the year he hit 70+. All other years are quite in line with each other. Also, since we are talking about "juicers", i would invite the lynch mob to join the bandwagon with me in indicting other players like, oh, Albert Pujols, A Rod, Miguel Tejada, Brady Anderson, Luis Gonzalez, Julio Franco.... (you get my drift) to stand before Congress and supply their own testimony.
Hammerin Hank is the true Home Run King!! You can call for whomever you want to break Bonds' record, just realize that in the present and future, most likely the player will be on juice or have used some form of juice. JMO!!

Seriously, have roids damaged your brain as bad as your hero's????

It isn't he said, she said. BONDS HIMSELF ADMITTED THAT HE USED THE CREAM AND THE CLEAR

Once again so you understand, BONDS HIMSELF ADMITTED THAT HE USED THE CREAM AND THE CLEAR

And yes, almost everyone condemns Rose for the same reason as Bonds. They are both cheats and BAD people.
