HOLY COW...They are really nice...I love those eyes

Thanks. Do you remember how emaciated my female was when I got her? These guys are so much more healthy. Unfortunately, they're not weened :-(

Very cool!

Sorry, I should have clarified for those that haven't been there. They are in one tank and the tank next to it contain the pipes and seahorses, there is a panel of glass seperating these two tanks and the huge ray tank behind it. The rays are swimming all around the room and over your head while you walk. I did wonder if the rays would scare these guys in the aquariums though.

Thanks for the information.
Ahhh, that makes me feel better.

Can I ask how much a filefish typically cost?
I know they guy, so I only paid $40 for the pair. They usually range from $35-$75 depending on where they come from, and how healthy they are. If they're already converted to prepared foods, I've seen them go for over $100. Some places sell them with acropora frags as a "starter kit" to help maintain them for like $40+.

The fish isn't that expensive, but maintaining it is. It's also really hard to find a healthy specimen.

Thanks for the info. I think I will avoid getting one and enjoy watching your progress!

LOL! They're consuming my life at the moment!
I've yet to get them to eat prepared foods. It's so stressful because my last one came already converted. They are munching down on the montiopora frag in there.
This weekend I'm going to make a trip to Manhattan Aquariums, they sell huge Aquacultured colonies for $75. I'll probably pick up two or three, shove one in their tank and frag the other two to grow out to make sure I have enough for them. My husband told me that if I dared to frag anymore of his beloved ORA pieces, he'd bury my body in the back yard.

Those guys are in SUPER shape! Either they've been being fed or they haven't been "in the chain" long enuff to get skinny. Best of luck weaning them.

Our pair took the move OK (the male got a bit stressed and we thought he was going to backslide, but he started eating the second day after relocation). They're now sharing their digs with a flavoguttatus anthias, and they all seem to be doing fine so far. In fact the files are a bit more aggressive than the anthias ATM.

It never ceases to amaze me how peeps who are pushing the envelope and learning to keep difficult species, and more importantly SHARING the info, get flamed by the "know-it-alls" who are simply regurgitating things they've read and are propagating all of the old info that is no longer really true.

Renee and I have seen it with SH-keeping, and even tho there is TONS of new info, techniques, and understanding about keeping and breeding them successfully, there are the plenty of peeps who are still spreading the old wives' tales and bad info about them.

I found a guy in Orlando, pretty close with a lagoon that is going to take and is ecstatic about the Sea Robin. I'm pretty happy that she'll have a nice place. It was never my intention to seek one out, it's just not the direction I had intended on going. Tomorrow at 9am, she'll be on the road to her new home.

I know what you mean!

Makes it tough. I got bashed in the store by some guy when I was picking these two up the other day. The man insisted that I not buy them, claiming I was "too young" to know how to take care of an expert only fish. He demanded that the owner of the store not sell them to me. The owner walked over and started chatting with me about how successful I was with the last one he got for me and then had me identify what s e x they were. I picked up a montiopora and a acropora for them to munch on and told the LFS owner that I wasn't even going to attempt to ween them for at least a week. The guy just looked at me with a stunned expression on his face. I paid for my fish, gave him a nice smirk and walked out with a bounce in my step :)

The filefish have a new friend. I could not turn this guy up, it's a 1 1/2" healthy Starry Blenny. He'll stay in the 14G for a little bit, since he's tiny and he eats algae strips, and once I set up a larger tank, he'll either stay with these guys or go in a bigger setup. I've wanted one for a long time, and the ones I see are usually much larger and emaciated. Added another acropora frag as well. They now have a large Montiopora, a small Montiopora, an acro frag and a Acropora tenuis colony (that they're DESTROYING!).

Also added more of a CUC (cleaner shrimp, bumble bee snails, nassarius snails and 4 hermit crabs) to prepare for when I start trying to ween them onto frozen.
