Building my 56 gallon Column reef tank

I dont float and the drip occurs in a homerdepot bucket to prevent the dogs from drinking the water so orange fish in an orange bucket would just leave the white lines.
The fish are in and swiming around and picking at the pods on the glass. I plan on feeding them around 10 pm, only going to do half a cube as I dont think the little guys can eeat a whole cube. If there is extra, the shrimp will eat it.

Its a little hard to capture them on film as they swim fast and the camera doesnt utilize the digital still all that well when zoomed in. I will attempt to get better pics tomorrow with the lights on.

Congrats, you have some cute clowns. My clowns pose for pics. It is hard for me to take a pic where they are not included.

I was in a happy mood today too until someone at Walmart stole my purse with my appointment book in it. I have no idea who I am supposed to be grooming for all week and since I am supposed to go the them, it presents a problem. Really spoiled the "new fish" day.
WOW....sorry to hear that....I bet that gives hubby another thing to hate about NY

the worse thing is pictures :( and just the loss of your little personal items too.....of course your appt book would be a biggie....do you have an answering service? Maybe get word out

Oh my... sorry to hear that, that will definitely put a dark cloud on things. Best of luck getting things situated with the grooming appointments.

I agree losing pics is the worst. It's ashame though. Too bad crime is everywhere. I was robbed at my last job and it took place in a quiet neighborhood.

Dont let her fool you, she wasnt that excited about getting the fish. I kind of think it has been an act all along.

Water tests this evening about 4 hours after the clowns were introduced.
80.1 degrees f
sg 1.025
ph 8
ammonia 0
nitrite 0
Nitrate 0
The second bag of chemipure purchased at the LFS was previously opened and used. It was wet on the inside. Since the place was over 40 minutes away and by the time I got home and put it in, they were closed. I was going to go back there tomorrow, because of the nice sale they are running, and pick up some more stuff. But now, we have a stolen purse to deal with and the sale runs all week.
While the stolen purse is bad, its not as bad as you all think. Its far worse. We can deal with the credit card companies, the banks, the club memberships, and the DMV and SS office. Those arent really big losses. Our credit sucks so no one is going to get anything with our information. What really sucks is the loss of the appointment book. That is basically everything for the business. Without it, we are really lost. While getting the clowns was fun, exciting, and completely entertaining, the loss of the appointment book is still hitting home. I went out and checked the dumpsters close to sprawlmart, drove slowly down the roads leading away from the store with my flashlight pointed at the curbs, I disabled the van so it couldnt be stolen. Tomorrow, a freaking holiday, we have to change the locks on the house, get a key made for the van at the dealer, and start the process of getting new ID for my wife. I have to stay up all night to make sure nothing happens to our house, grooming van (yea, those keys were in there too), my car, and just be Mr. Watchdog. Its a long night for me, but atleast I have fish to look at.
The previous comment was made in anger, but its still partially true. She wasnt excited about the new fish.

She wanted her orchid dottyback real bad. She knows its an expensive fish. She also knows that the sale was on. She is rather smart and was able to put 2 and 2 together. When I told her she couldnt get her fish now, as the tank might not support it, she didnt whine too much. But she gave me that look and spotted some Dragon eye zoas that looked cool. With the sale, I couldnt go wrong and we picked them up. They have been closed since going into the tank, no lights on yet, so when the lights come on tomorrow, I will snap a pic with them opened. They are really cool looking and I have them placed in just the right spot.

Putting this here for my own reference:
the start of a CUC (fire shrimp, sexy shrimp, ~5 to 10 snails) Check, but got too many snails. Didnt get sexy, got 2 pepps and a fire.
1 week passes Check
2 Ocellaris Clownfish (add them together) Check, and they are small and very active.

about 2 weeks pass
1 Purple Firefish
about a week passes
Cleaners again? (sexy shrimp, brittle star(will this be needed yet?
), ~5 snails)
about 2 weeks pass
2 Cardinals (add them together)
about 2 weeks pass
1 McCosker's Wrasse
about a week passes
around this time, check how the cleaners are doing, it may be time to add more (~5 to 10 snails)
about 2 weeks pass
1 Royal Gramma + 1 Orchid Dottyback (together right?)
about 2 weeks pass
1 Orange Spotted Blenny
about a week passes
check cleaners again (fire shrimp, brittle star, rest of snails to reach 25 total)
about 2 weeks pass
1 Flame or Coral beauty
about 4 months pass (this would make it 8 months old at this point)
1 BTA
about 4 months pass (making the tank about a year old)
1 mandarin

depends on how good you think your cuc is doing if you think you need more get more around that time but you can add the sexys anyway even if you dont need a brittle star and 5 more snails

Water test this morning
80.1 F
1.0245 (from topping off with just RO water after aclimation yesterday. Havent done the water change yet, waiting for results from this evening's water test.)
pH 7.8
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 10
Nitrates are coming back up, but the water change should help that. The fish sorta ate last night, but this morning, they didnt seem nearly as interested in the food. I tried a very small pinch of flakes too and that didnt entice them. Per chance I have the wrong food? And clowns, do they want to eat the algea sheets? I havent noticed these guys nipping at the algea. Maybe they are full from all the isopods they have eaten?
As promised, here is a pic of the Dragon Eye's zoa. you will have to escuse the bad pic, I wasnt sitting down and I am notorious for shaking the camera. I will have to ask the missus to snap a shot off or 3.

Nice zoas. My clowns just started eating algae sheets and I have had them since January. They only began eating the algae sheets when I got my lemon peel angel. You can try on a n omnivorous meal like emerald entree. I sometimes get the saltwater multi pack by SFBB which has that in it as well as squid and 2 other types of food.

Yes, clowns should eat algae. Many people do not realize that clowns are omnivores.
What were they eating at the LFS? I would try mysis and emerald entree as starters.
