Yes, clowns should eat algae. Many people do not realize that clowns are omnivores.
What were they eating at the LFS? I would try mysis and emerald entree as starters.
+1 on the mysis and Emerald entree.....and also the algae, BUT mine won't eat the sheets either.....I bought some Julian Sprungs mixed seaweed flakes.....they will pick at that

I don't leave my sheets whole, I soak them in a container with tank water and vitamins, then break them up by running it back and forth through my fingers and break it apart in front of a powerhead. It looks like I'm feeding flake when I do it.

Well, we havent resolved nearly enough of the stolen purse so I do not know if I can get to the LFS tomorrow. I will call them and find out what they fed them though. From what I saw, they fed them "white" shrimp and the food i am trying is pink.
But I also have to think that they have been eating isopods. I have noticed a dramatic decrease in their numbers on the glass lately.

Marine Cuisine is a good mix, I use if often. I really prefer SFBB to any other frozen line available.
And yes, there are people that dumb in this world...

Water test this evening
80.1 F
SG 1.0245
pH 8
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 20
With the trates back up, I did a small water change. Will check the water in the morning to see if it helped. Can I have calipura (spel?) on one side of egg crate with it not effecting cheato on the other side of egg crate? I am thinking about adding in some cheato to the other side of the sump to maybe help rid the tank of the nitrate.

Right before you do a water change, take a turkey baster and "blast" off the rocks. A lot of debris (fish food and poop) gets built up on the rocks, making them less effective at filtration and more of a nitrate factory. Even with an excellent CUC, this can still happen.
Caulerpa and chaeto can go together, BUT there can be lighting issues. It's recommended that Caulerpa be kept under a 24hr light cycle (lights always on) to minimize it going sexual, while Chaeto should be kept under a 12 hour cycle. I do keep the two together under a 12 hour light cycle opposite the DT, but I am very careful to watch the Caulerpa and make sure it doesn't start growing spores. My refugium for my 155 is a display tank as well, so it's easy to observe. I cut it back a lot as well, probably once every 2-3 weeks. So yes, it can be done, but keep an eye on it.
What do you have in the refugium right now?

So the water change didnt help. I think there is both in the fuge now. I have some green spagetti stuff coming up out of the sand and its tangled in with the calipura. The spores that gow, they look like little bubbles right? Could the high nitrates be caused by all that cactus algea I had growing starting to die? Not all of it looks soo good. Should I do what I can to remove it from the rocks? On the other hand, the red cactus looking algea seems to be growing rather well.
I have some of those little jellies in my tank. I noticed them when the pumps were off during feeding this morning. Get them out I presume? How big can they get? Dont use my hands either right?

from our favorite hitchhikers site, the jellies are Hydroids Medusa Stage and are really really tiny. My turkey baster sucks when it comes to sucking so I have a medicine dropper to suck them up. Just had questions about them. Will get them tonight.

I got quite a few of them things out of the tank during the feeding. I was able to find mysis but not the sfbb kind. The clowns seemed to have eaten better today, so I will try this again tomorrow morning.
I pulled off some of the horrible looking cactus algea I had off of one rock and will cross my fingers for better nitrate readings tomorrow.
Remeber when I tried to electrocute myself with the water and surge protector? Well I stuck a battery into the thing just to see what would happen and the display lit up. Taking it further I plugged it into the wall and then connected the PHs and heater. All worked well. So I changed over things to work between the 2 surge protectors and now I have to remember how to make the timer work correctly as I had my wife toss the directions. I know I can find them in a PDF as I have seen it before. Heck I might still have it in my fish folder.
No water test this evening as things are just bad all over. Week started with wife in hospital with high blood pressure and a kidney infection. Then we had her purse stolen. NOW the ancient grooming van, that should have been junked when we bought it, didnt start so no one could work today. Dealing with that frustration, and added expense, I wasnt really in the mood to do more than feed the fish, suck the jellies out, and turn off the lights.
