I can't believe what that skimmer is taking out, and how beautiful my reef is beginning to look again...who would've guessed? The water and the glass are starting look crystal clear again, like before my first skimmer went to heck.

A funny thing happened while I was searching SWF.com!! I'm sitting here at the computer, hubby on the couch. I hear something not quite right and I rushed to my reef tank. The skimmer is overflowing like nuts!! My hubby never realized anything was happening!! Funny how you develop an ear for those things.
I'm hoping that it just needed to be readjusted after it's broken in...it seems to be set great now (I've got it set for a more dry skim). Hope that doesn't happen while I'm away!! Ahhhhhh!! Weird.

Is the stand made out of solid oak, or is it made out of partical board with an oak veneer? Either way the new tank looks really good. Why did you get a new tank, was it just to have a bigger one or because something went wrong with you old one?

The stand for my 46 reef is solid oak. I went bigger mostly just go bigger, nothing wrong with my old tank or stand, which is now housing my 4 seahorses quite nicely...beginning to think of upgrading them as well.

This has been the week from H-E double toothpicks!!
We received very distressing news about our little sheltie, Leo. He's in the fight for his life battling cancer...we're there with him to try to get him through that process.
We got back from the university yesterday where Leo received his first chemo treatment plus a whole battery of testing that NO ONE should have to endure. I went feed my reef fishes and there was at least 3 gallons of water missing...@#$!$@#! skimmer gone haywire while we were way. I turned the whole kit and kabudle off for the night being too exhausted emotionally to want to deal with it. THEN!! I went in to check on my seahorses...after 8:30 pm and the white light was STILL ON!!!!!!!! WTF???????
OK, settle down...I got water set up for a change in the reef, since most of that water was removed anyway. I accomplished that change, did some readjusting on the skimmer and so far so good. I'm skeptical though. Tomorrow, I change water for my seahorses.
The problem with the lighting on the sh tank looks to have been simply a timer thing which I fixed and have checked a few times...looks to be working OK at this point.
I'm tired and scared.

I'm considering getting that exact same light fixture for my 30gal long. Are you happy with it? Have you had any issues with heat? I found an AWESOME deal on it, but I'm worried about putting a halide on my tank w/o a chiller.

I'm so sorry to hear about your little sheltie, Leo will be in my prayers. After going through my own, I feel your pain.
I hope that you continue to have success with your skimmer. that was the main reason I dumped mine, I could never get it to level out. Equipment can sometimes be more frustrating than caring for the tank occupants.

Mike and I went to a LFS that we haven't been to in ages...well, not that local I guess, which is why we haven't been there for so long. We walked around for a while...and I ended up spotting a very nice and healthy looking torch coral...just the right size for my 46gal tank. It's got 5 very nice, healthy looking heads and altogether is about 4-5" in diameter...it was marked 69.00, but I got it for 49.00...I talked their ears off asking questions, etc.
Below, a picture of my new reef addition, in the tank about 1/2 hour...and as I look at him now, he's opening up beautifully!! I think he'll be happy.

No offense, but that avatar!! Yikes!!
Anywho, I'm VERY happy with the light fixture. The only complaint that I would have with it is that it might be a little too intense, and on a 30gal long, would probably be very intense. I would also worry about the heat on that tank. I also got an awesome deal on that fixture, and for the most part I do love it...I just have to be careful where I place my corals and such.

Haha...he's looking really awesome today. Luckily they like strong light and strong flow, and luckily again I had the perfect spot for him.

Torch coral is coming along very nicely...he seems to be very happy.
I'm taking a vacation day tomorrow and Beth and I are going to hang around Madison all weekend...can't wait. Last stop, again, the LFS to see if there's anything that just has to come home with us.
More later this weekend.

Hey Luke!! I'll get pictures of those tomorrow when the lights are on again...they look pretty cool. Also, I came home this weekend with a really sweet galaxea coral. I kinda had a little crisis in that I didn't have near enough water in the bag to keep it covered during acclimation...I just put it right in my reef...mmmmm, it's doing great so far. I didn't really have a choice. We'll see, I hope it does well.
That's it for now.

sweet, cant wait to seee it....and good deal on the galaxea, i love those..i have one that is growing very well right now...they look amazing in a nice current....it's not goin in the seahorse tank though is it? i'm sure it'll be fine though, people throw coral in all the time without real acclimation.

Nope, not in the sh tank, I'm working at building up my reef a little bit since I have the seahorses pretty much settled in. I have my galaxea and the beautiful torch coral in pretty good current and pretty good lighting. We'll see how they do.
