Same here....hubby is working tonight...I won't put on the central air yet, BUT we have a window unit I use for the fish room...Hubby will be putting it in tomorrow for me when he gets up
I just got a chiller for the horse tank though.....no condensation....you use a pump to pump water from the tank into the chiller.....and the chiller sends it back to the tank ...chilled...LOL
the one I have makes no noise (although it is a small one for a 28G) IDK what your fish room is like...BUT the window unite for $129 made a heck of a big difference for me....a chiller for a 225G is quite expensive

my tank is in a spare bedroom i call my office.i am in here more than the living room.i sit here and call customers,do paperwork and of course come here.i found a chiller rated up to 360 gallon for $806 plus the pump.but i really dont want to add more noise in here.
i put the a/c on last night and the tank is already down to 81.its around a 300 gallon system so i went down pretty fast.if by this evening it is around 79-81 i wont worry about the chiller.

83 degrees is a high temp spike. i know chillers are very expensive but they are a good investment. i have recently gotten into sps and they are super sensitive to heat so this weekend i am buying one from the same person i bought our 180g from. the Mrs. may disagree with me lol... what else is new but after trying to strategically place fans a million times and no change in the 78 - 83 temp spikes... i am getting one. i am getting this unit used for a third of the price and the unit can be recharged so... sorry but a chiller imo is best to safeguard against temp spikes.

yea i probably will.i thought $800 was pretty reasonable .its not an ebay chiller its from a big online company .i am just concerned about the noise since you have to put it outside the stand.
i really want to get into some fragile sps corals and since they are pricey i would rather spend the $800 so they dont die on me.

i had tried a used coralife 1/2 chiller and it wasn't too loud. it just didn't have any refrigerant in it so it served no purpose. is there a way you can get it into a closet or something?
i would also check on others reviews about the chiller your looking to purchase just to see if it is a quiet unit. maybe even youtube it?

no closet on the wall the tanks on.the one i am looking at says its quite.but you know how that goes.i dont think it will be any louder than a small fridge/freezer.if its just a low hum it would be ok.
i am sure they dont sound like a 1960 freezer.i can never get my tank under 80 so i am thinking its a must for sps.the tank is now at 80 with the house a/c on.still wonder if a grand is worth 2 degrees or not?

i see what your saying for only 2 degrees but....
$1000 = $??? in cooked coral
its an investment. i noticed everyone with bigger tanks end up with them too.

yea but the window is 2 feet from where i make phone calls to customers.and they are deffinitly noisy.a few days ago i went to get a snail out for my mantis.there was one on the back wall.so i put my arm under the lights to get it.my forearm touched the mh glass under the bulb and burnt my arm pretty good.so there is no doubt where the heat is coming from.since my tank is 33 inches deep i dont want to raise the light fixture.the tank is still at 80.i looked at some corals and it says between 72-78 temp.i have nevr had any tank at 72.i have always tried to keep them at 78.i will probably get the chiller ,i will have extra cash soon .i know this because i just came from lowes .not a parking spot anywhere.this means my phone will be ringing off the hook this week from people looking to do patios.i gauge my spring rush by this every year.

The chillers we use for the fish system at my work are pretty quiet. We run 2 units or 3 units (I forget) and I barely know they are running when I am in the pump room.

We're actually buying a chiller for the 155 tomorrow. Our tank is right outside our bedroom. I'll let you know how obnoxious it is over the next few days.
