All computers are the same unless they are a Mac.
They are all IBM parts...Dell, Compaq, HP all of them have the exact same parts. It only matters who put them together. To be honest, just like cars...who had the hangover on the assembly line that made that computer will be the one that screws up all the time.
So look for the fastest processor, the biggest hard drive, the most memory and running the newest operating program which now is Microsoft 7. So any computer sold using for example XP, is old and has been on the shelf for a very long time. Get the best one you can afford. I promise you, any computer you buy today will smoke your old one in speed and gizmos.
Go to Best Buy...
don't get the silly extras... the computer is obsolete after the 1 year, so no need to get a protection plan. The Geek squad is ridicules. They only put temp software into the computer, in 30 days to 6 months you have to buy the full version anyway. They are charging you a fee for a free download.
You don't need help from their "geek squad" to remove advertisements for $60.00 .
Get the basic computer and put the programs you want in it. They all have internet all ready to go.
Danny and I used to build computers to sell, until thy started making them so cheaply...back then a good computer ran you $3000.00 for what you can get today for $500.00
Asus brand is great for streaming video, and Acer is also a very nice desktop computer. I don't know what kind of monitor you have, if it's a good one, like a 20 inch flat screen (what I had) you can buy just the computer and save allot of money. Your mouse, keyboard...everything will work with the new computer. I kept my keyboard because it has Hebrew charactors on the keys and it lights up so I can type in the dark.
Stay away from Walmart computers.
