It depends, do you have files, accounts, pics, etc on the old computer that you want on the new one? If so, then get it.

Sorry, but I just got a chance to look at the specs of the Walmart PC. The processor on that machine (AMD Sempron 140 processor
) is the AMD version of the Intel Celeron (single CPU). Also, the motherboard only maxes out at 4GB (which means the Windows 7 is most likely 32-bit). The video card shares system memory, which means you could possibly see a little pixilation if you tried watching Full Screen video. The network port only supports 100MB (instead of 1GB). Not too much a factor unless you share a bunch of files on a local network with other PC's. It does have a Lightscribe DVD. Those are cool because you can buy special Lightscribe disks that are two-sided. You burn your media/files on one side, flip it over, then using the Lightscribe CD Designer software, you can create a personalized label that would be 'digitally lasered' onto the face of the disk (no more Sharpie markers or stick-on labels to label your disks). It's not a bad PC for the price, and would probably be sufficient for your needs.
The Dell is by far a better deal. The 18.5" monitor resolution is fine for watching videos and online TV or movies. Spend the extra $55 and upgrade the memory to 6GB.

I hope you ordered the dell and it wasnt 64 bit. No home user is going to take advantage of the 64 bit arcitecture of a pc at all. Sure the OS might be 64 bit, but nothing else is going to be. Even the most advanced video games being made today are not 64 bit.
64 bit software is like peoplesoft that runs on an 8way with ram numbering in the terrabytes. Basically, office software and server software at that.
And that USB cable for $23, I could have made you a network cable and sent it to you for free that would have worked faster. Freaking better still, I could have talked you through moving your hard drive into the new pc so that you wouldnt even have to move a single file. But anyway, its kinda my fault as both my wife and son stole the PC from me this evening preventing me from posting. GL with your new machine.

Just a side note, I'm not sure which version of office you have. But you might do some checking to see if a 32 bit version will work on the 64 bit system. I know their 2010 office will do that. But I'm not sure about older versions.

Stay away from windows in general. Go with Lynx. Much better, more stable and not a resource hog like microsoft. Plus less holes and security risks. Tigerdirect.com, globalcomputer.com and Newegg.com are very good sites to buy pre-custom built computers. Stay away from Dell, Compaq, etc. You will get better quality products by going with a custom built computer from my experience. I have built many computers in the past.
