Me either....Wait a minute I didn't exist in '82
OH SHUT UP!!!!!
My 1st was born in 1982 :)
I have you beat. My first 'computer' was programmed using punch cards. In high school, we used to empty out the machines with all the little punched out holes into garbage bags. If we found any car unlocked in the parking lot, the owner would come out to it and find the floor filled up to the seat with them. Our senior prank, we filled the Principal's office up almost completely with them. He thought it was hilarious. The janitors on the other hand....

ricght click on desktop and choose properties. then choose the desktop tab. Browse to the pic you want to use and the strech option is in the drop down to your right.
edit: and no vista and 7 are not awesome. They are the complete opposite of awesome. Buy as a normal user, I expect you to like what M$ has done with their opporating system. Keep those blinders on, it wont matter in a few years anyway. M$ is invading your privacy completely by monitoring what you are doing on your pc. I dont want to be technical, but for those who like to burn discs or make MP3s from other discs, you know what I am talking about.
The new media and internet functionality Vista and Windows 7 provides is way above that on Windows XP. I consider XP more of a 'business OS' more than a consumer OS. Vista turned out to be a nightmare, and is likened to Windows ME. Windows 7 fixed a lot of the bugs in Vista, but it's still a memory hog that can't be run on an older PC. I take it you prefer the Mac OS or Linux. Linux is fine for a computer geek, and RedHat made a decent attempt at putting together a friendly UI to try and compete with the Mac and MS users. However, you still need some decent computer knowledge when it comes to configuring Linux, and most user apps are non-exisitent. Mac's are great for media and video/photo manipulation, but they also lack the vast applications you get on Windows. Apple also overprices their hardware for what you get. I can put together a Intel box with four times the processing speed, 4 times as much RAM, twice the hard drive space, and a video card with 1GB of on-board memory for the same price as one of these Mac Desktops that barely has a decent DVD burner on it. I also never could get used to the 'one button' mouse thing. Drives me crazy when I touch one of those boxes.
New media functionality? Are you kidding? That is exactly where M$ is spying on you. I dont prefer Linux, but if I were to use a copy of it, I would use PHLAK (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PHLAK ) as it would provide me with what I need. And I wouldnt touch a mac with your fingers. As I said before, Win2K is where its at and I wish I could go back.

There are some "interesting" versions of Windows XP out there for people concerned about using bootleg software and such, not that I would ever condone that sort of behavior

You apparently haven't played around with Windows 7 very much. Yes, Windows 7 is integrated with the Internet, but you can lock that down. I don't send anything back to Microsoft, except for the product key registration. If that's what you call "Big Brother Spying", then OK...
Windows 2000? Jesus, why not just go back to a paper and pencil? Better yet, NT 4.0. You want Windows 2000 Professional? I think I still have a few disks lying around with a non-expiring product key. That is, if I haven't ruined them using them as placeholders for my coffee cup.

actually no, that is not at all what I am refering to. DRM is a nightmare and I dont want it on my machine and you shouldnt want it on yours either. you seem to be uninformed on what all M$ collects about you and what you do on your machine. read this -> http://www.pcworld.com/businesscenter/article/170842/windows_7s_deadly_sins.html If it still doesnt make sense, then feel free to continue to walk through life with blinders on.
BTW, I have copies of windows going as far back as 3.11 as well as M$ Bob. Besides, there are DVD DLs that you can get all the OSes on a single disk and install any version you want from a nifty little linux loader proggie. Its not legal, but a good educational toy.

LOL...My late husband usd to go down the road and say "theres a cop" and I would say "Where"...Dan was aways doing something he shouldn't, and looked for the cops, watching his back at every turn.
I don't buy booyteg music or movies. I have no fear of the law because I obey the laws limits. Big brother can watch all he wants, he will just be bored to death. I tell my computer when I want an update and I can turn off my internet and control my files. I tell M$ if I want to report something. No updates are added unless I say to do so, it only says updates are available. I made that choice. At first New Vista and 7 wanted to do everything but I wanted more control.
When I first went from DOS to Windows, I didn't like it. I actually liked telling my computer every move. The beauty is that we do have a choice, you can use a different OS or tweak M$ to do what you want to do.

You must be a Tea Party member or Birther as well, right? You must be with your paranoia about MS "invading" your home PC. Trust me, I know where EVERY single byte that goes through my network comes from and goes. I know EXACTLY what is being sent to Microsoft, if anything at all. That's what you see when you have a Network Sniffer sitting on your home network.

Want a valid Key for the old stuff? Just use 111-111111111-111 (or however many numbers there are in the key). That's a default code that will get you at least 90-days for virtually any Microsoft product that doesn't need to be registered over the network. Always worked for me.

Even if it's true MS checks for bootlegs so what? I do have bootleg music but I don't create, distribute or sell it so have no worries about being sued. Bootlegging movies is killing the industry. I think that was one reason behind the fast push to bluray, expensive and time consuming to copy so in theory should cut down on bootlegging until the technology catches up.

if you have a sniffer running on your home network, your more parnoid than I am, LOL. But since I am not paranoid, thats not an issue for me. WGA and WAT is more of a problem than anything on the machines. If linux products were more easier to use, I would be a huge proponet of having people make the switch. But since your average Joe and Mary cant figure out how to get their IBM-PC based software to work on them, I say stick with what you know, but be careful. WINE has made huge strides in the past few years, but its not perfect yet.

The sniffer is more for work than pleasure. It is fun to jump on various networks and see what 'goes across the wire'. If you're not paranoid, why worry what Microsoft gets off your box?

Don't tell that to this girl who lives in San Antonio that owes five music companies $27,750 for 37 songs she downloaded when she was a teenager in high school. She grabbed the music from Kazaa when she was 14 - 16 years old. Even though the site clearly stated "100% FREE" and "100% LEGAL", she didn't know her copy of Kazaa was also sharing the music she downloaded. They initially tried suing her father, but ended up waiting until she turned 18 and went after her. She fought it for 5 years in court (all the way to the 5th Circuit Court Of Appeals), and still lost. The court ruled that notices on CD's gave her and others ample warnings of copyrights, even if she did download them from the internet. She even used the defense that she hadn't bought a CD in years, so how would she know about copyright laws? Another woman in Minnesota took her case through three trials for downloading and sharing 24 songs, and the last verdict awarded the music company $1.5 million, or $62,500 a song. May want to rethink thos 'bootlegged' songs you have there....
