Do you think Obama should have called the Cambridge Police Stupid?

I dont think he should have commented on the subject without knowing all the facts, he could have said "I dont want to comment without knowing all the facts" but he didnt and had to add his 2 cents to a civil matter. Now there is a witch hunt after the cop but his fellow cops and chief are standing by him 100%.

Nope, I do not. But he certainly wouldn't have been able to resist.
He has commented on the health care bill without knowing all the facts, by his own admission as well. And he is the driving force behind it.
So, no, he should have kept quiet, and he should ideally not play the race card without being mindfull of who he is and what impact it could have.

Bingoooooo!! Does he have to have answer for every fricken thing.. I mean he needs to show more constraint and a few more "no comments" until I gather the facts would come into play much more effectively than trying to appease everybody all the time.. me personally I would have more respect for the guy..

How did the officers show lack of restraint or common sense? I guess because the guy lived there, but hey...there is still a limit, IMO that can be crossed even if you live at the residence.
This officer is going to have a rough time because certainly common sense and restraint is not being exhibited by the guy arrested, the mayor (whom I believed apologized) and, gee, the president of the united states! But the white house has issued a clarification and all, so that makes it ok. I don't think I would be anywhere near as angry about this if the president had just stayed quiet and reserved judgement. He is now president of all races is this country.

The reporters played the race card with a black President and evidently won. Where was Obama's "prep" crew? This guy seems to be more and more lost as time goes on.

He (The police officer) could have very well just walked away, these are words not bullets .If i was arrested every time i gave a police officer a piece of my mind ,i would have been arrested numerous times.I dont think being loud and making a ass out of yourself should be a crime that needs to involve handcuffs and a trip to the crossbar motel.

The police need those personal video recorders that some police use in LONDON.. That would have put this issue to rest in a heartbeat and throw egg in the face of that professor.. This is a policeman responding to a reported BREAK IN IN PROGRESS.. I mean common!!!

Well I think the cops should have cuffed and stuff the guy long enough to do their investigation and let him calm down then cut him lose.
But Obama is a total A-hole just like the rest of the whiny PC elitists always blaming all their ills on racism
Yep, Officer Crowley is a racist
http://www.bostonherald.com/news/reg...c=next_article
"The Cambridge cop prominent Harvard University professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. claims is a racist gave a dying Reggie Lewis mouth-to-mouth resuscitation in a desperate bid to save the Celtics superstar’s life 16 years ago Monday."
News flash for the left. Reggie Lewis was black

This is an excerpt from an article today relating some words from the president:
"I have to say I am surprised by the controversy surrounding my statement, because I think it was a pretty straightforward commentary that you probably don't need to handcuff a guy, a middle-aged man who uses a cane, who's in his own home," Obama said.
In an exclusive interview with ABC's Terry Moran to air on "Nightline" tonight, Obama said it doesn't make sense to him that the situation escalated to the point that Gates was arrested.
"I think that I have extraordinary respect for the difficulties of the job that police officers do," the president told Moran. "And my suspicion is that words were exchanged between the police officer and Mr. Gates and that everybody should have just settled down and cooler heads should have prevailed. That's my suspicion."
What bothers me is this.
So you think cooler heads should prevail...that's great. Probably so, but an older man with a cane can still break the law and cause a scene. Why say only the cops acted "stupidly?" Didn't your pal act stupidly too? Now Gates wants an apology and I guess is looking at a documentary. Maybe call him up and say I'm president and that means things just may be looking up for race relations, ya know??
Cambridge police acted stupidly in arresting somebody when there was already proof he was in own home," Obama said during a prime-time news conference that otherwise focused on the health care debate.
"What I think we know separate and apart from this incident is that there's a long history in this country of African-Americans and Latinos being stopped by law enforcement disproportionately," Obama said. "That's just a fact."
And then to say this after the first comment? Totally off base. Totally uncalled for...if there are any riots or marches or these cops have any trouble...it is the presidents fault, IMO. Because this was just totally and completely irresponsible on his part.

Very well said. He was bound to be asked about this, but should have taken a different tack in his response regardless of the situation. This may cost him a few more points in the polls. While there may be an issue in the matter involving how things were handled, its not really the president's role to fuel the fires, trumping out race, without knowing the circumstances.
Personally, I doubt race was the issue, except when the professor assumed that police officer was harassing him due to his race. Reverse racial profiling then seems likely to me, in that a lot of assumptions are being made about police officers in this country, and this officer's motives specifically. If I was in that situation, I would have gladly showed the officer my ID, and would have been very grateful to the officer, and my neighbor, for diligently protecting my property. If that had happened with this professor, all would have ended perfectly fine with no problems. Instead, the professor had to start off in a tirade about race, and being harrassed. Its a very odd reaction in my way of thinking---unless you're a racist yourself.

Oh no, Beth...according to the president, first, any one of us would be pretty angry.
"I think it's fair to say, number one, any of us would be pretty angry," Obama said. "Number two, that the Cambridge police acted stupidly in arresting somebody when there was already proof that they were in their own home. And number three -- what I think we know separate and apart from this incident -- is that there is a long history in this country of African-Americans and Latinos being stopped by law enforcement disproportionately, and that's just a fact."
I actually want to dissect this. I cannot, personally, stand it when I read or hear things like "first, second, third..." It is not baseball. One would hope the listener/reader is actually smart enough to follow the points.
So...any one of us would be pretty angry? Well not as soon as the police knocked on the door. Heck, the police have knocked on my door in the middle of the night, looking for someone. It scared the heck out of me, but I didn't accuse them of anything. I believe I actually said thanks.
Even people who are actually in the wrong often, if not typically, get pretty angry when arrested. Gosh darn it.
I would handle it like you Beth. I would stay calm cool and collected because it is pretty well known that getting ticked off would probably not help in the situation. It would probably be a sure fire way to be arrested.
Hmm, the POLICE acted stupidly, but not his friend who immediately and repeatedly called the officer a racist, while refusing to be fully cooperative? Hmmm. Now if my family member did something like this (have a temper tantrum to the cops)? I would straight up tell them they were stupid. If a friend did it, probably wouldn't be great friends anymore and would certainly tell them they were stupid.
The officer in this case is actually a trainer for the police profiling course - basically the "respect and professionalism" class that I have to take as a manager. Oh, and that doesn't mean how to teach them to profile.
Don't you think, if it was, he would at least know this would cause a stir and be smart enough to make up a better story? Ha ha. But really, it makes me very angry.
Obama ran for the office of president, he needs to be respectful of everyone. Because as president, you do actually need to be a bit cautious in what you say.
