I haven't shared my favorite verse yet, have I?

I guess it would have to be John 3:16.... sums it all up!

That is kind of my point. Everyone has something that may bring them closer to God. For you, it is the Bible...for me, it is other things, and I would hope that the important thing is the faith and belief...but it often doesn't seem that way.
This is a saltwaterfish board, a hobby fit for all beliefs. This should be an open and inviting atmosphere. Previous threads of a religious nature have not lasted this long, because invariably they start becoming grounds for prostheletizing. This is easily a topic that can certainly continue, so long as it does not slide into "my way is THE ONLY way" as it has recently. This is not the appropriate forum for such discussions.

Sonic flood, Casting Crowns, Chris Tomlin. We have a mid sized church of about 800 people and Sonic Flood came to play and 1,500 people showed up. Auditorium only holds 1,000. It was packed and they played for 3 hours. I had never heard of them but have liked them ever since.
Our church is big into music with 6+ bands. The first day I walked in 7 years ago, they were playing Tom Petty "I won't back down at the gates of Hell".
Side bar, We have a guitarist that became a Christian after playing rythym guitar for Black Sabath for several years.

This question was not meant as a "loaded" question, neither am I asking you to defend your faith, even though you should be able to if the situation requires it. However, the question was intended to get your view point on the Bible, and not to offend you. There are many christians and denominations that have differing views on the Bible, and I think that in some aspects its okay. In regards to Genesis, some people believe the 6 days of creation represent actual earthly days and some periods of time...There are other examples such as the Flood, Jonah, the Burning Bush, the Parting of the Red Sea, etc, etc...As with other things that some christians accept and others don't such as Speaking in Tongues and etc...I personally believe that their are both figuaritive and literal parts in the Bible and that It need to be properly read with an understanding of middle eastern culture.
I am a democrat, but I watched the GOP debate last night, and this was one of the questions...I found that interesting.

seasalt, we have a common ground this time, I agree with you
in the figuaritive part of my original post...there is some language in the Bible that is used to describe something by using metaphors..But I do agree with you with the events/miracles that I used. I am not sure about creation and what the days represent and if the world is only 6000 years old or so. It could be true, I don't think it matters that much, usually science can back these things up, Is the world millions of years old like carbon dating says...- probably not, God is enternal and I have no idea if what is a day to him is a day to me.
I hope this all still pretains to the original post...and has to do with Bible Verses.... But I had some Jehovah Witnesses come to my house the other day and I do respect all people and their religions, so I listened and opened my door. They were trying to tell me about the 144,000 people who are going to heaven as kings and queens (counsel to God) and the rest of us will remain on earth and earth will be like heaven and will have peace. They used the Daily Prayer as proof by saying "Peace on Earth, like it is in Heaven". They also told me how they believe in the Bible and what it says.- Does anyone have a respectful take on this?

i think a day is a day he made light he made dark and saw it was good and to me science is just something man made up to try to disprove the bible most scientist are atheist anyway who can say carbon dating is effeciant or not no one has been around long enough to prove it and they say the planet is billions of years old bah the only thing i believe are tree rings and the oldest tree on the planet is like 2000 years i am not sure of the exact age, and to those that believe in evolution every time something cross breeds the offspring are sterile so how did all this happen how did the sterile one's breed to evolve into what they are today it don't add up and why are there still chimps and lizards and mudskippers etc. i thought they all evolved to me that type of science is a waste of money, yes i take every word of the bible literally if i took this part and mixed it with that part i would be skeptical but i don't mix words you might remember me saying that, i am glad we have a bit of common ground...tobin

on the jehovah witness thing i do not agree that god has a quota for 144000 souls i tink that would of been met along time ago, remember jesus on the cross and he said to the one thief today you will be in paradise with me, the 144000 is just a number 12000 from each of the twelve tribes of israel now this is only my belief i see them more as cult-like as i also see the mormons jmo walkin the line here...tobin

I hear wht you are saying brotha (
just attempting to be funny) anyways I think God gave us science, but that some scientist misuse it to try to disprove God and His works. If you look at science you can see that their are systems and laws of nature. And systems don't create themseleves. What makes it so cool and mind blowing is that he set these up so that they were "done"and God doesn't have to recreate life, plants, water, land, and etc because there are seperate systems and cycles that do this all in balance....these things are what we know as science, physics, medicine, and etc...We are the unique creations of God!
