LMAO. you can say that for almost any band. when you have a band that has their own style and sounds so much different than most other bands their songs do tend to sound alike. thats what gives them their OWN sound.
but it wasnt that different...
and i agree Dragon!!! Molly Hatchet and Thin Lizzy too...

ah, and metallica and bauhaus, if you consider that classic rock. ok, old rock. and misfits. skinny puppy. prince.
nah, ruaround was right on that one. Metallica should never be classified as "classic rock". they were the forefathers of a new genre (thrash) of a newer genre than 'classic rock' (called 'metal'). even though Sabbath and AC/DC were also 'metal' bands (though AC/DC does have a big lean to classic rock too), Metallica took it to a major extreme. compared to true Metallica (which most people have never actually heard because it's usually not the Metallica that gets played on the radio), "classic rock" and normal "metal" are very very tame.
I also would never classify the Misfits as classic rock, nor the Ramones.

funny you old fellas should get your underware all knoted about metalica being classic rock because I herd them on the classic rock station on the way in to work tonight . The same station plays the ramones too .
on another note AC/DC should never be in the same thought as metalica or black sabath . You couldnt pay me to go see ac/dc , that singer screaming like he thinks he can sing and that idiot angus are a bunch of clowns.

what Metallica song did you hear on the classic rock station? let me guess, it was either a post-1990 song or one of their 3 "slow" songs from the 80s. point being, you'll never hear a song like "Battery", "Blackened", or "Frayed Ends of Sanity" on a classic rock station.
what genre a group belongs in is usually defined by the music, not the singer. and musically speaking, Angus Young would play Tony Iommi off a stage all week long and twice on Sunday.

Wow, dude!! Dissing AC/DC?? I think that's like grounds for jail time in some states, lol. Pure blasphemy!!
How can you watch this and not wanna ROCK OUT! (check out the crowd I guess a few people like them, lol) http://youtube.com/watch?v=X80Qjh9Yivs&feature=related
IMO...best Metallica song ever: Fade to Black. I can't stand it when they will only play the "trendy" songs on the radio. The Metallica songs that get radio play(along with many other bands) are probably some of their worse songs. If you only like what's played on the radio on a regualr basis you're missing out BIG time!!

And here I thought I was the only classic rock fan out there that thinks ACDC just sucks! I really dont understand the fascination with these guys. Any 10 year old with a weeks practice can play their guitar riffs and the singer is just horrible!

I think any RUSH fan would agree with you. If I hear Tom Sawyer on the radio one more time I'll puke. They only play the same 2 or 3 songs of theirs on the radio. Any fan would agree with me saying that they'd like to hear Natural Science or La Villa Strangiato on the radio but for some reason it'll never happen.

It happened to be justice that time and I have herd master of puppets and ride the lightning on that station before . Its ok though bro as long as you can hang on to the glory days of when metalica was heavy then you'll be fine no matter what burn out rock radio station is playing their hits . So go dust of your torn jeans and your black t shirt , repeat to your self metalica rules metalica rules and you will be fine .

LOL GnR as classic... well i guess since they are defunct now (yea, ok.. chinese democracy is coming...i'll believe it when the Country goes democratic...) and most of their "good" cd's are from late 80's early 90's they are semi classic. classic to me is 70's to early 80's. there is a station in springfield though that plays metallica, ozzy, gnr, etc and is considered classic rock (rock 102.1 and it's on the web streaming live
)

I disagree. Also consider that Iommi played with 2.5 fingers. Also consider that Black Sabbath was doing what they were doing as early as 65-66, not the late 70s 80s. ACDC is a good, hard rockin' band, but the just aren't very musical.

I only like 2 or 3 things from AC/DC, and one is that they were the inspiration for Wierd Al's "Dirty Deeds, done with sheep"

that's like saying a one-legged man would be as good a cyclist as Lance Armstrong if he could have 2 legs. doesn't matter how many fingers Iommi has, Angus is a better guitarist.
Sabbath started off as a blues/rock cover band in the 60s, at the same time that members of AC/DC were in other bands. Sabbath released their debut album in 1970, AC/DC's came 4 years later, so it's not like there was a big time difference like you're talking about.
I'm not saying Iommi's not a great guitarist, but he's no Angus Young. and imo, it's not even anywhere close. Iommi made a living off playing slow, overly distorted power chords, Angus never used effects....it was a guitar plugged into an amp and he could make it wail. not even close.

I guess the 180 million people who bought AC/DC albums were all "imbreed" (spelling error for the sake of continuity)

Angus was 10 years old in 1965, pretty cool his parents let him be a touring guitarist at such a young age....
Also the age difference is a big deal, 65 Hard Rock wasn't popular or abundant. Come 1973 when ACDC started hard rock was some of the biggest acts.
In the end its silly to argue over such a subjective topic.
