Lol. I dont think a picture of a board and some screws and what-nots would be exciting enough for a picture. Lol. Ill take plenty of pictures on Monday.
LOl...I disagree, to see a work of art emerge from a plie of wood is pretty cool to watch unfold. Acrylic51 showed us everything, even the type of glue he used when he made my sump.

LOL, ok, ok, Monday then. I'll take a pic of the board. LOL
So, I inherited a bunch of router bits from my deceased grandfather that are still in great condition - and they are mostly all 1/4" shafts. Well, the bits that I want to use for routing the canopy isn't going to fit in the NEW router that I have, which is a 1/2" shaft router. :( It's going to be easier for me to borrow a router from my Uncle instead of buying two new router bits at $20 each.... so as soon as I can get a hold of him and borrow his router, the sooner I can get the project done. :D
On Monday, I will have everything cut, drilled and fit in place. Tuesday or Wednesday I should have the router borrowed and by Friday, I should have it in the mail.
I am still sending it in pieces, correct? The way that I am building it, you should only have eight screws to worry about. I will have them all taped inside the holes. You will just have to remove the tape, put the boards in place and screw them together. Simple. :D

Oh, and Flower, by the way - You still want me to paint it gloss black, right?
Absolutely...by Friday! Wow that's fast. I wish you lived closer, I have a ton of handyman work I need done around the house. My handyman friend is spred so thin doing jobs, it takes him months to even get to me. Seth, find some older folks with their own homes, you would have more work than you can imagine.

You are an industrious young man...You will always have a roof over your head, and food on your table.
Some folks look for the exact same type of work and when they can't find it, they give up and say..."there are no jobs"! To be able to do many different things, and willing to learn new things will take you far in life, I'm impressed.

LOL! Workin' on it. I got pretty busy yesterday and only had time to cut a few boards. I have to dig up a 1/4" collet before I can route anything. I got plenty of pics. I'm on my phone.

The first thing that I did was to make a "jig" I put together some scrap wood that I had that were the exact dimensions of the top of your canopy. By doing this, I made sure that the canopy would fit on top of your aquarium and slide relatively easily into place. The jig is 30 1/16" long.

Then, I measured out 31 1/2" +1/16" to compensate for a little extra room on both sides on the main front board of the canopy.

After I cut it on the miter saw, the first cut was not square... I always check for square because if it isn't square it doesn't look right and doesn't perform correctly.

You can see that it is completely off square in this picture.

Of course ... you have to double check.

The next step was marking out the places where everything would be screwed in at as well as marking it off to make sure the top of the canopy did not rise more than 8 1/2" above the aquarium.

The little X signifies for me... pieces that will be cut off or not used.
