Forget about it, gorillas are stronger than 10 men. Especially when they drive a tow motor.

LOL...The gorillas met their match in Slice. He created a package they couldn't destroy. To be honest I think secretly Shawn was waiting to see if the fuge made it safe before he would release the sump. So how does it feel to be the test bunny?

lol Probably. A sad but true story...I was at work yesterday the UPS truck showed up to drop off some boxes. I heard the distinct sound of boxes falling and looked over and seen that the driver had a stack of boxes that he was stacking up on the back of the truck getting ready to load onto the dolly which he had on the ground to find that they all tipped over and fell off the back of the truck. I walked over and asked if he wanted a hand picking them up and he said no, he's got it. I said ok, and glanced briefly into the back of the truck. I didn't know whether to laugh or be appauled but there were boxes EVERYWHERE. And when I say everywhere I mean they were all over the place, it looked like he must have rolled the truck over a couple of times. There was even what I believe was probably about a 32" flatscreen t.v. precariously perched on the top of one of the shelves in the back of the truck that was ready to take a 6 foot drop at any moment. I just shook my head and went on back to work.
He wasn't our normal driver...this was actually some young kid. Our normal driver is actually a pretty good guy, very profesional.

Just think.....That tv or other precious cargo in those boxes are important to someone out there....As Corey clearly stated this is the treatment your packages receive....It's all about production and quotes to these big companies....I saw something similar Monday morning while leaving the mall after getting a hair cut....Just happened to peek into the back of the UPS truck as he was off loading and crap everywhere....Just makes you wonder where all your shipping money goes????
sure isn't quality control of your valuables...
I wonder how they would explain the damages to the customer on the tv if it were to arrive broke??? Guess the manufacturer doesn't know how to pack it either?????

I'm always amazed at how some of the stuff arrives at my work. I have seen some pretty bad horror stories. The worse was when the truck driver (tractor trailer with a food shipment) was supposedly cut off in the parking lot to my store, which caused all 9 pallets on the left hand side of the truck to slide 6 inches forward off their skids. I had to manually stack each pallet, which were at least 6 ft tall. It took me 2 hours to unload the truck, since I could not use my buddy the forklift.
I have heard some horror stories about UPS from a manager that I work with. He worked at UPS for 20+ years and was a supervisor. He said it was tough working with some of the union people, and a lot of times they just had the mind set get the job done anyway and not care how it was done.

Last year I had a test project for Amazon. They were experiencing abnormal shipment failure on Samsung 50" and 58" Plasma TVs.
Amazon complained to Samsung that the packaging may be OK for bulk, palletized shipments on a cargo ship, but was completely insufficient for single pack shipments via either UPS or FedEx.
Of course, Samsung replied that they know how to package their products, this is an Amazon problem.
My job was to simulate a normal shipment environment: drop each package (2 of each model) from 24" on each face, corner and edge (10 times total), then shake it on the vibe table simulating the back of a truck (14600 times at a 1" amplitude, frequency to make the package leave the table briefly, this part of the test is usually more destructive to packages).
I hate these type of tests. I had over $6000 of beautiful Plasma TVs that I had to intentionally drop..and drop...and drop. I cringe every time I hear them BAM! on the floor.
I knew what would happen. The TVs reverted back to "kit form"; a box full of loose parts. Here is one of many shots I took for the test report:

I was returning my DISH network DVRs in prepaid boxes...there on my street was a UPS driver. I asked him if he would take them and he did. I didn't have to drive all the way to the UPS place a few miles away.
Until now I always trusted them, if I had anything to ship, I used them. They have so shaken my confidence; I will never use them for anything I value.
Folks build a business one customer at a time until they become the BIG boys...well it works the opposite too. They can lose one customer at a time until they are out of business. They better shape up....With the web everyone knows all about what everyone is doing. The media is power.
Slice...I now love my Plasma TV even more..it has survived so much to be mine...LOL...couldn't they just pack some glass the right weight..why kill a plasma TV? What a waste.

Its not UPS, it is anyone moving packages through a system, FedEx, USPS, whoever.
It is the folks at that UPS Store, who did such a shoddy job on the original "package" who should loose customer confidence. They ignored their own guidelines for
packing a heavy delicate item.
Oh, forgot...why destroy a TV in a test? To prove (or disprove) the package design. Sacrifice one to save many...or something like that...

I thought about what we had talked about earlier today about product being handled.....Funny to say first trailer 53' I pull and get ready to back to the dock.....As I pop open the first door to my amazement I see an 8' skid of merchandise coming out after me.....Being the motto around the place " it's not going to my house"....I thought quickly about damn....I should just let it drop; then I thought, someone is actually waiting on this stuff....Quickly I was able to get the door shut, had to fight it along with the help of another guy, but we were able to get a guy on a forklift and us 2 handling the trailer door, to upright the falling freight to save the company money and damages..... Yes Slice is right it does happen every where, but it just hits a little harder when it's your employer that bungles majorly!!!!!!

Flower you hit the nail on the head...."Build your business 1 customer at a time"....Old school thinking, but the correct way we were all taught....But into today's hustle bustle a lot of that is forgotten or thrown to the wayside, when it comes to the higher ups and stock holders demanding more, with less....They honestly don't care about loosing 1 person, think how huge they are or any of these companies....My point being they were informed of the spot light and attention this had generated, and the power of media.....Wouldn't you as a business owner small or large with some compassion or respect, try to remedy the situation???
Flower you know all the hoops and hassles they were doing/are doing....Wouldn't any respectable business that cared 1 about their reputation, and to show they are the top dog of the show, step in after they admit fault, and say hey lets make this right, and get this shipped and shipped correctly....Me personally and I know this went a little further than the claims dept and Flower would agree, that someone should have stepped in and made a few calls, and said bring the replacement back to us and let us prove we are #1 and prove to the masses why they deserve our business....It's said to say, but there will be nothing shipped by me through UPS from here out......Heck at 1 point I had considered shipping an acrylic tank from Oregon to Pa UPS.....
I could only imagine how I would have felt seeing that destroyed!!!!!

Update:

This is a portion of an e-mail from UPS to Shawn...

As I explained to you in our conversation on Monday, it is a 7 - 10 business day turnaround from UPS from the point of claim approval to delivery of check to us. We, in fact, received the second check in today's mail. We will now have the bookeeper issue a check to you and it will most likely be placed in the mail on Friday or Saturday.

So it "looks" like a check is forthcoming. Shawn says they have given him no indication on the amount of that check. They “should” pay him what he insured them for, plus refund his shipping charges.

YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY.....did he ever get the "first" check though?

UPS claimed that they got the first check from the head office , but wouldn't send it out until they got the second check and then they would make one check out for both claims. Shawn is fuming..they keep making excuse after excuse. He doesn't believe he will get the money until its in his hands..I don't blame him...they have given him constant grief about all of this instead of just taking care of business.
They even told him that they had sent many people to my house and left tags on my door about getting the busted items...NO, they lied..not once has anyone come to my house and left a tag of any sort. Twice they came and didn't take the items because I couldn't repack it and they wouldn't do it either but instead left them sit there.

Good morning Flower!!! Good news.... The sump shipped out this morning, and actually helped the FedEx guy load it on the truck. The sump is headed to the main hub as we speaker to be routed your way. Delivery is expected for Wednesday!!!!! Maybe you'll get lucky and get it a day earlier as with the huge. They put all kinds of fragile stickers and what not on the box after I showed them the pics of the UPS attempt. When it arrives it will have to be signed for!!!!! Went the little extra to ensure you see it before the guys disappears!!!!!
