Awwwwwww crap - I'm so sorry. Could it be that they are just too weakened to handle all the treatments that are meant to save them? They must be under so much stress - but nothing compared to what YOU are experiencing, I'm sure.
Sue
The stress may be a big part of why they are not recovering as quickly as I had hoped. Why aren't the meds working is my biggest frustration.

I started looking for any reference to external parasites regarding seahorses. Do they still have those white spots?
I read on a seahorse dot communication site that Hydrogen Peroxide dips may be easier on horses than that of formalin.
You and your girls are in my thoughts.

Hi Ryk,
Yeah, it's me... still here and still active. Sorry to hear about the loss of your 2 rescues...that stinks. I wish I had some useful advice at this point, but it seems to me that you're doing everything possible. Keep doing what you're doing...the 2 horses you have left are going to be much better for it.

This evening both girls have pastey white tail tips. It goes up about 1 cm.
I used more drastic methods. I bathed both in Hydrogen Peroxide and then applied iodine all over their tails. In between applications I scrubbed them with a Q-tip. Much of the dead tail skin flaked off as I swabbed their tails.

I'm so sorry about your horses ! It sounds like the 4 days without food really weakened there immune system , and plus who knows what was in the lfs tank before the horses? I mean , if they didn't feed them for 4 days , i highly doubt that they'd clean and medicate the tank before adding more livestock....It might have been a virulent pathogen or parasite that was in there before the horses....again im so sorry
take solice in the fact that you've done the best for your horses

I am very sorry to report, none of the girls made it. However, there has been one good thing to come out of this. I have finally found a website that sells antibiotics for seahorses!!! I am waiting for SWF to okay for me to post the link. The medications are given through the snout with a syringe.

To the future health to all our horses

What has been swimming your tanks? Would like to see some pics

Thanks Sue. A big part of my inspiration lies here, sharing the hope, excitement, and even the heartbreak as you said..it's the knowledge and experience that we pass on.
I've be bucked off a horse more than once. Time to get back in the saddle!!! You ready to ride?

So sorry about losing all your horses Rykna.

But you gave them so much more hope than that awful petstore.
I know how you feel. I added a new clownfish to my "old" seahorse tank and ich got in my tank. The clown died and now my Blenny and $50.00 black and white clown have spots that are spreading so fast.I bought Ich meds but all I can do is pray.My nerves are shot....lol
Again so sorry for your losses but it is wonderful that you tried.

Thank you, it's been a bumpy road for all of us lately. If I were you I would use neosporin on the ich too. I'm currently treating a emperor angel with hole in the head, I gave the fish a scrub down and put the neosporin on. It really seems to have helped the healing process. The angel did not like the bath of course, but he's doing much better now.

Hang in there, and keep us updated on your fish

Hi again,
Yeah, I sure hear you on the neuter/spay thing!!! That was definitely the downfall of my sh tank. I'm in the process just now of breaking my sh tank down and combining everything into either my 46 reef or Beth's 55 reef...really slow going, but we're getting there. We should be pretty much there by this weekend. I'm also in the process of replenishing soft corals in my reef, and I have about 4 frags on the way...should be arriving tomorrow...can't wait.
I've decided NOT to do seahorses again, at least not now. Too much going on with my grandson, and two (2), yes TWO puppies!! Stuart is now a year old, and his little sister, Rhonda is 7 months old...they kill me

I'm VERY sorry to hear about the loss of your rescues. I absolutely know how heartbreaking that is (another reason I won't get into seahorses again for while). Total thumbs up to your effort...you ROCK!!

I don't want to hijack a thread, but all meds that are useful (ie: that actually work) are available many places. The key is to have the correct meds. I personally would never medicate a seahorse orally. Very dangerous and intrusive and can cause so many problems for those inexperienced.
Most hobbyist/breeders have the same meds on hand at all times...and they work. A very popular breeder in Florida sells all these meds on their website, but many other places sell them as well. I've already mentioned a few of the meds to use. It is not hard or difficult to find them or order them online.
On average, for most illnesses one has only mere days to start the correct treatment if there are any hopes to save the seahorse.
