Gas Prices

You dang well better be wrong about that! There is no way I want to be driving something that goes through diesel that fast! If my old as dirt van could still get 20 m/p/g this bus, even for her size, should get much more than 8 m/p/g. Do you know how high I would have to raise prices at that rate to make a decent profit????

I hope its better than that as well. We are just guessing and I will find out what kind of milage it gets before I leave with it. We will fill it up tomorrow and then drive it around a little bit and the fill it up again. I am hoping for more than 10 MPG.

If thats the 6.4 Powerstroke you are probably close on the mileage. They were terrible. If it's a 6.0 you will be better off.

I believe its the 7.3 powerstroke. Did some research and there was some kind of cam shaft sensor that was made wrong. Apparently the silver ended sensors were bad and new ones with gold ends were good. the good ones could be had from an international retailer. THe other issue is the gears. if its the 4.10 then its bad news. Will have to find out more tomorrow.

They used the 7.3 through 2002 I believe. Thats the year of my Powerstroke. My shortbed crewcab has done better than 20 on the freeway with 3:73's and a auto. Around town is like 14~16. I'd expect that rig to pull at least 10. I get around 12 pulling the toy hauler. Thats got to be as much weight as you're hauling.

Its an old shuttle bus that hauled 14 peeps at a time. This thing is big and heavy. We know we can drop 400 pounds off of it right quick by draining the fresh tank.

By the way, that cam sensor was a recall item. I would be surprised if that hadn't already been fixed seeing as how the feds considered it a safety issue and that was a bus in it's former life but maybe. It would cause the engine to stall when it went flaky.

If that's an 01 or 02 I have a superchips plug in power programmer I'll make you a sweet deal on. Just what you need an extra 80 HP out of the thing LOL!
Actually it also reads codes which is handy if you do your own wrenching.

Gas up 8 cents here so far this week and crude oil has hit 119.
On a side note, a friend of mine has a condo at Panama City Beach and filed claims with BP for the oil spill. He received two check for $2k each and was then told by the condo manager that BP wanted to settle with everyone at that condo for in one lump sum payment. He agreed to it and a $30k check came in! I don't even think PCB got hit hard by the oil spill so it worked out well for him. I use his condo several times a year so I told him that he needs to let me have it free this year!!

He does and I can see how he is eligible to file for claims sice he can claim loss income. However, I think business was actually better since alot of folks who usually go down to vacation further west of him moved east and he picked their business up. Plus the place is rented by a northern couple for 4 months out of the year and they still came. I used it 3 times and the beaches were crowded. The money he received is filed as rental income too so I guess that is taxed differently from ordinary income.

And let's not forget the "rubberneckers". I was amazed at the amount of people that wanted to come to Florida to see the devestation for themselves and commented that it really wasn't "that" bad. I'm sure they felt differently while trying to remove the tar from their bodies and belongings but hey, to each their own, lol.
I have a friend with a condo that had a hard time collecting his losses. He was further north while another friend farther south, who has a rental home that stayed rented, never lost a dime was paid hansomely.
Like anything else, it was odd how the money was divied up so I was just curious.

I just hope people don't start to panic and think that they have to fill their cars up now, the prices will go even higher. That's how gas got over $5 a year or so ago.
