Ugh, that was really the last thing I wanted, was to have to break stuff apart in it. But if I have to... then I guess I have to. So what size tank can I fit into my cabinet? 50 gallon? Or should I go larger or smaller?

Yeah...your doors are humongous.....you should see what I go thru to get into my side doors...LOL....
and with the tank empty....do all the breaking and re-doing now......

Not that I know what I'm talking about ....lol

Now here's a good question!... Can I break the center in front and just add 2 doors that open from the center so then I won't have any brace in the middle of the front? This way when I move or need to move my whole tank I can just slide it in and out. My only concern is behind that center piece in the front is YET ANOTHER BIG stud. Do I need all these studs? I know it needs support, and really the last thing I want to do is goof around with the structure and add my own modifications only to end up filling the tank up and it come crashing down and through walls.

Ok.....your doors are huge and was already confirmed removal to clean shouldn't/isn't an issue.....Big doors a plus in any stand.....with that being said!!!!!! The removal of the back braces will be super easy, and can be put back simple enough. I would like you to at some point take a couple good detailed pics of the underling maze and the back supports......
And a good shot of the bottom side of the tank; where the tank sits on the stand.
With that being said....I've dug around and a tank that would fit your stand with the working dimensions Corey put out there to me is a standard 40 gallon long.....The dimensions are: 48"L x 12"W x 16"H.......

That would be a perfect size tank...40Long.

I know stuffing a 48" tank inside a 48 1/2" space doesn't leave alot of room, but you can run a submersible pump as your return pump to save space as well......

You want pictures... I will give you many many pictures tomorrow. For now, I am going to get some sleep tonight, and will be loading my 24 gallon tank into my car to get the 40 gallon tomorrow. Thanks everyone for all the help. Tomorrow when I get back from the office I will load the pictures or if I get a chance to take pictures before heading in I will load the pictures on this thread at some point in the work day.
Assuming I get a 40 gallon, can I still use the 9" Buffles and 4" buffles? I have a friend at a glass shop that is cutting glass for me tonight and I've told him about 30 different sizes that I need and I know he's starting to roll his eyes when I tell him a new size.

I'm sorry everyone. My measurements of the cabinet were off... by a lot.
The actual measurements are 60" (W) x 15" (D) x 24" (H)
Does this give me more room for a bigger tank? Or should I just stick with a 40 Gallon as suggested?
All the other measurements provided earlier in the thread are true... just the cabinet was wrong. I knew something didn't seem right so I had to remeasure.

Ok, I will have pictures up tomorrow for everyone to review the "handy work" done by this person before me... it makes me wonder if all the structure is truly needed....
Until tomorrow all! Thank you again for helping keep my head on straight!

I'd stuff a 55.....go as big as you can fit.....55 will work, and could leave you with alot of room for back syphoning....but that's another issue....
GO BIG

My 55G is 21 1/4" tall. That would only leave him like 3 inches to get into the tank? Pluss he's gotta acount for the door openings to try to reach in there.

These are his workable dimension, Shawn.
125 Gallon - 5 1/2' (W) x 1 1/2' (D) x 2 1/2' (H)
Cabinet - 4' 1" (L) x 1' 4" (D) x 2' (T)
*Sump Tank* - 3' (W) x 1' (D) x 11" (H)
Skimmer - 1' x 8" Footprint 21" tall with 1/2" of additional room for removal of top.
Sparty, I've got a rough sketch drawn up for a design if you can't get a bigger tank. Don't mind the plumbing, it's just to give you an idea...i would use flexible pipe for your return line.
I.E. the skimmer section may have to be made shorter...do you know what the recommended water depth to run your skimmer is? Generally it's around 6-8 inches or so...but this differes between brands.
2Quills,
My DT and Sump is going to abt the same size. What a concidence :) I am gonna use this sump design also. Corey you make life so easy :) Thank you so much!!! SHUKRAN HABIBI ( Thats thank you in Arabic, I lived in Kuwait for many yrs before I moved to India )

OK!! I should go for a 40GL sump too... Cool :) My cabinet is going to be custom made so no issues abt getting the sump tank it and stuff...

These are all the pictures of the cabinet top that the tank sits on. I don't recall if I answered a question from last night... but yes, the tank is empty, I have not filled anything in it yet and don't intend to do so until I know I am 100% ready to go. I started to think a little more last night and I am starting to get on board with breaking the back stud, slipping in the 40 Gallon, and then reattaching the back stud. I will need to make sure I do everything else first though, right? For example put in the buffles, and all of the other daunting tasks before I forever lock my sump in my cabinet, right?

This just me and my opinion and I am no expert...
I don’t think it is ever a good idea to put in a tank that you had to remove certain parts to just get it in there. If it ever leaks or brakes, replacement would be impossible. I always think of the what ifs, it gives me bad dreams sometimes but it also saved my butt too.
My cabinet isn’t big enough for a sump tank either. I use canister filters instead. I struggle wanting a refugium which I’m working on, but I have used the canister filters for years without any problems at all.
That being said, hang on the back skimmers are garbage and the #1 reason to have a sump. I would at the very least try and put in a sump system that I can swap out if trouble occurs, by using two smaller tanks or something like that.
