getting very angry with my lfs

I know 2Quills has mentioned that in this thread or some other thread and I would REALLY prefer going that route. I just don't know how complicated it will get. I was thinking the same thing though, have 2 tanks... 1 (24 gallon) and then another... so then I can add all the stuff and remove it when necessary.

Best way to go IMO...If you are handy at all, 2quills can walk you through getting it all set up..

I am slightly handy... if I have direction I know I can do it though! Quills, when you get on the fourm today let me know if you're interested in possibly going that route... if it'll make it easier on me I'd prefer to use two tanks under so then I can remove incase of disaster. Otherwise if you feel the best option is to break and lock it in then let me know and I'll get that done.
--By the way, I've added pictures of the tank support on page 4.

Yeah you can do two smaller tanks...lots of people do. I'm not going to be around too much tonight or tommorow, going offshore fishing for my b/day...but i'd be happy to help. See if you can check on some tank sizes in the mean time to see what size tanks you can fit.
Also, if you can find it...there is a member here who's name is AquaKnight and he has some pictures of his build and I believe he has a 2 tank set up under his stand. If you can find it that will give you an idea of how it will work. You're going to have to drill one of the tanks though so don't get scared...it's easy, you can do it.

Ok, I'll do some research and look for his postings. I won't be around much either this weekend, so I'll catch up Sunday night/Monday afternoon. Happy Birthday! I'll keep everyone updated on the progress I make as I continue this too.

Thanks, guys!
Looks like you found it...you can kind of see what I was talking about. Shouldn't be too hard to set up with a 2 tank system.

Corey, hopefully you can come back with some great input. I have a feeling I'm going to need quite a bit of help down the road with this project!
Thanks again!

Yea, sorry about that. I had time to read the threads, but not write up an answer, just got back from dinner.
Are the dimensions 2Quills quoted right? If you have 4'1" of length inside the stand, and the 24gal is 36" long, I think you're not going to have a choice but to use something else. Even if it's 5'1", that still means that 24gal takes up 60% of the length, and only leaves you with 2'1" of length for a sump which would be tiny.
Digging around a couple websites to see what typical aquariums would work. Will post more shortly, just wanted to stop in and double check first.

No, the inside of the cabinet is 60".
I was planning on using that 24 gallon as part of the sump... if I need to I can return it and get a smaller size... perhaps 2 20 gallon tanks? Or I could get a 30 gallon tank tall and it will be 36" x 13" x 16". And then get a smaller tank? Or get a tall 24 gallon?
I NEEEEED to do something other than just use one tank and yours looks amazing, and I would love to mimic it if at all possible.

Also, couldn't I just do 2 20 Gallon Tall tanks? That would be 40 Gallons for a sump... wouldn't that work?
20 gallon High ---- 24" x 12" x 16" ---- 225 lbs
Couldn't I get two of those and put them side by side? Or even could I do:
1 - 20 gallon High --- 24" x 12" x 16" --- 225 lbs
1 - 29 gallon

[hr]
30" x 12" x 18" --- 330 lbs
This would put me at a max height of 18" and I would put my skimmer in the 20 gallon tank so I'd have plenty room to remove and add the skimmer, and I would put the 29 gallon in front allowing it more room for the additional overflow so then I won't over flow in my sump, and then I'd have room for rocks, sand, etc.
Wouldn't that work?
I'm reaching for absolutly everything to maximize my space right now.
If that one wouldn't work above then wouldn't it be possible to just do:
2 - 20 gallon High --- 24" x 12" x 16" --- 225 lbs ?
That would give me 40 Gallons. It would also realisticly give me 48" in length and 16" in height all around.

Yea, it seems like 2 20gals is going to be your best option. For the sump I would use a 20 Long, 30"(L) x 12½"(D) x 13"(T) and a 20 Tall 24 1/4"(L) x 12 1/2"(D) x 16 3/4"(T).
Quick MSPaint, of how it would sit in your stand

Ok, so tomorrow I will run back to the LFS and return my 24 gallon and get a 20 Tall and 20 Long. Just out of curiosity, what is that brown box under it? I read somewhere you want to put foam under it incase of leaks... is that what it is or is it just a box to sit it on for height?
Also, why would I want to over extend the pipe in the second tube? Wouldn't it want to go in the first section so it can run through the baffels?

I don't think a 20 Tall is going to work for the sump, you wouldn't be able to get the skimmer (with a footprint of 12"x8") out of the sump to service/clean it.
The brown box is just some wood underneath. I'm not sure if there would be enough height on the refugium for the drain to clear the sump. I should have explained that. If you notice on my tank, I have 4 white pieces under the refugium to help raise it up some.
I drew the drain for the refugium going all the way back to the first section, so that it could use the bubble trap. The return would be in the center.

I would just pull the tank out to service the skimmer... I can just slide the tank out and pull the skimmer out that way can't I? I also thought I don't have to remove the skimmer... just the cup on the top?

Are you saying it just wouldn't fit in there? Because the tank I bought that I thought would work is 36x12x11 and the footprint fits perfectly. I just have the 12" go along with the width and the 8" go along with the Depth of the tank. So it would be the same situation with the 20 gallon tanks.
I'm not putting anything down that you're saying trust me... I'm just trying to make sure you're sure this isn't going to work... I need something to work here, and I'm running out of options.
