getting very angry with my lfs

for $5 take it....if the filter works, you can always have it on hand in case you have an issue later on and want to run extra carbon or some other filter stuff.....IDK what kind of tops and lights it has, but it may work for a light on your refugium (if you make one)

Ok. I'll let him know I want it. I was assuming I have to make a refugium based off of AquaKnights drawing. We just have to keep in mind that the whole point to me using another tank is so then I don't have to worry about anything ever overflowing in my tank or in my sump tanks... otherwise it will ruin my carpet... so this will resolve the overflowing problem?

You don't HAVE to make one.....but in the long run they are good for the tank....don't ask me why....LOL....

Ok, but I won't have to worry about any chance of overflow? That's my biggest concern... I don't want any chance for overflow which is why at first I was going to result to breaking my cabinet and then refix it after putting the sump tank in there.

IDK...all I know is my pump pumps the water into my tank...an the overflow brings it to the sump....
....you will do tests when you have everything running with the water levels in the sump....to see if your power goes out..that it will not overflow..I had A LOT of help when I set mine up LOL

I was told the U tube thing would break the siphon and stop an overflow.

The water will stop going thru the u tube things when the water in the tank goes below the little slots in the overflow box.....You have to make sure you have enough room in your sump for that water to go....

There are 2 reasons why water will backflow into your sump.
1. Water will keep flowing untill the water level drops below the teeth (slots) on your overflow. (like Meowzer said)
2. Since your return nozzles (loc-line fittings in your case) are going to be submerged in water a syphon will be created when your return pump is shut off, causing water to backflow untill air is introduced into them.
Some people will adjust them in a way where you can drill a hole in them somewhere near the surface so that there is minimal backflow untill the air is able to get in. You can also use what is called a check-valve on your return line which is a fitting designed to only let water flow one way...but you can't rely on these alone because sometimes they get stuck open when they get dirty.
Or if you're creative (like me)
you can do something like this. I will use a check-valve on my return line. I will also have my loc-line fittings ran in a way that I won't have to drill any holes in them. I have 2 different sets of nozzles on mine. The 2 on the ends will spray water downward into the tank. The 2 side-spray nozzles in the middle will spray water at the surface and this will help provide surface aggitation as well as work as a syphon break for air to get in once the water lever drops a little bit. So in other words...if you set everything just right and take precautions then the chance of any flooding occuring will be next to nothing. Pluss my sump will be able to handle enough water backflowing into it just incase any of those precautions were to fail.

I thought you were fishing

We were, got back just a little bit ago. It was a good time but the catch kinda sucked. We caught about 30 fish between the 4 of us and only kept 3.

Oh well, that's fishing for ya! Was still fun to get out there on the water but it was really really hot today. I'm beat.

Excuse me... but I am NOT over with being angry with them!
I went in there today to pick up a new light bulb for the tank and the guy that claimed the only way to get a sump in there was to break my tank and he would do it for a price was there. He seemed a little awkward today seeing that he was half expecting me to ask him to do it still.

On a side note, I didn't get any of the 20 gallon tanks today. I'm picking one up tomorrow, and might be going to the LFS to pick up the other (20 long). I'd rather not get it there, but it's the only place that really has them for a decent price ($35).
I'll end up taking it into a glass shop tomorrow to see if someone can drill a hole into it for the bulkhead.
Wooo! Update! I'm now getting a 20 gallon long for $15 tomorrow! So in total I will be spending $45 on a 20 tall, 20 long, lights for the 20 tall, a cover for the 20 tall (if even needed), and a filter for the 20 gallon (if I even need it).
Sounds like a pretty good day to me!

Also, what size/power pump should I get to push the water back into the tank?
I'd say go with something in the 900-950 gph range. After headloss you'd be getting around 5 times turnover for your size tank. That's plenty...you don't want too much more than that going through your sump because it won't be able to process all that water.
You will want to look into some powerheads for inside the tank to provide flow as well...it helps with the filtration. Probably 2-3 powerheads equalling a total of around 3,000 gph. Between those and your sump you'd have a turnover rate of about 25times per hour. 20-30 is average.

So how many do I need to get? I have 1 on my skimmer right now... how many more should I get and where would I place them and how strong should each be? I'm just trying to get my shopping list ready.

Look into the Koralia evolutions....I like them...IMO I would get more....not less....Maybe get a 1400 for the center, and 2 750's for the sides.
REMEMBER you have time for this.......you have a ways to go.....LOL....

meowzer... to clarify... are you saying I need this (1400):
I'm not sure which is which yet at this point. I know one pumps water, and one makes for a solid water flow.
So which are you saying I should get?

The first ones....the Koralias (powerheads)......I didn't copy your post so you can delete the links....(not allowed) those places are competitors so we don;t post them
