yea no where have i seen it recommended that they be kept in a 500 gallon tank.. a very trustable site in my oppinion reccomends them in a minimum of a 80 gallon tank.. which maybe im wrong and there wrong and no i wouldnt reccomend an 80 gallon but whats wrong with a 125.. it doesnt seem to me to be to bad.. but then again ive never seen one of these guys over 14 inches

Thats because they put SOME gators in zoo's bred them in captivity, slowly reintroduced them into the wild (game preserves), then while the gators are living in safe (but wild) areas they breed in the wild which brings them back.
If you introduced every whale from seaworld and other zoos back into the wild they would die almost immediately. they would have no idea how to act. that has nothing to do with survival of the fittest.
DO NOT TRUST LIVE AQUARIA WITH TANK SIZES. they cant even get fw fish right all the time.
and that porky is so awesome. in that picture it reminds me of jaws, with the little guy floating above him

The biggest adult puffer I've ever seen that was raised in an aquarium was 16 inches. A 20 inch puffer was probably caught that size in the wild. I get all of my information from wet web media and they all agree a 90 gallon is good for an adult puffer if there are few tank mates and a 125 is ideal FOR A HEALTHY, LONG, LIFE. The same is said by the team at saltwaterfish.com, since I emailed to ask them before buying my puffer.
Puffers are not tangs, they don't need the swimming room that fish like those do. They are much like lions. The bigger the tank the better of course, but saying a puffer can't live a long happy life in a 125 is wrong. Feel free to back it up with any info other than "they get really big and need a big tank."
That big puffer is awesome, do you have any other pics fo it? I love their faces and attitudes. Mine is about 6-7 inches now and I've never had a fish that is so sociable to people. Always right up on the tank wanting food and never skittish.

Great thread...I feel like I'm watching Cops.
Interested in knowing if you plan on building the 1000gal yourself. If so, keep us up to date. Good luck with the puff.

lol puffer im sorry to say this because you are probably about 12 years old but you have no business in this hobby. The people that you have been sitting here calling nuts and idiots are some of the most knowledgeable people on this site. These very same people have talked me out of MANY stupid mistakes. See, I am willing to admit that I do not know as much as these people and that I have made many mistakes. But you, you are the worst kind of stupid becuase you do not even know that you are stupid. I have visited several threads where you post your "knowledge" of the topics at hand and I am continually amazed not only by your stupidity but your confidence in spreading such nonsense. I think that it would be better for the other hobbyists and for the fish at hand that we are responsible for if you keep your ideas to yourself. If we were to follow your ideas on population I suppose we should just take random people and put them into 6x4 ft cells because they will survive in that limited space. And hey if they do die, there are so many others that we can fill their places with. Although it may not matter to you if a few fish die due to your ignorance and stubborn attitude, some of us on this site actually care for the fish that we keep and want to see them thrive. I feel truly bad for the fish that you keep. And if you knew what you were talking about you would understand that Darwin's theory called for the strongest of every race surviving in a given habitat will survive due to certain adaptations. If you put this logic against your logic of owning a marine aquarium you will see that placing a puffer in a tank that is too small for it will place it at a much larger chance at death than that of a puffer which is placed in a suitable aquarium. I think, when stating his theory, Darwin intended people of atleast a moderate level of intelligence to be able to interperate it into modern living.

Now that all of that is said, your porc. puffer is truly beautiful and I am curious to see what it looks like in your proper aquarium with your suitable care.

:hilarious WOW that arguing was funny and FUN! Let me just tell you that are tanks aren't seaworld and i bet you any money that the fish in seaworld are very very happy! Just look at their enviroment, the only thing i dont like there is the way how people mess with the stigrays by pulling their tails. Sorry just had to get that out of the way

Really? Puffer? But he seems so level headed. He also always has a clear, concise, articulate responses.
