I'm a Texan

I'll be in the Green Zone, near the Embassy. If I need to use a firearm things have really gone bad for the Alliance.... That said, I have been trained to deal with that situation.
The unfortunate reality is that with the tactics being used by the enemy, if there is a problem near you, you probably wouldn't get the opportunity to pull a gun. Stay away from cars, buses, kids with backpacks, and lately, women. And I probably wouldn't be visiting any synogogues while you're there, (but that shouldn't be a huge hurdle
). Good luck again.

my husbands unit has lost 8 guys in the last 2 weeks, not mellow enough for me. its mostly because they've rigged rpg's with ied's so it penetrates and explodes. a lot more damage.

Weather its IRL's or tripple stacked South African 155's, the moral of the story is to keep your eyes open when outside the wire and dont take any $*** from the locals...

RPG = rocket propelled grenade sothere is no need to add an IED= improvised explosive device
The RPG would do enough damadge on its own .

Now a lot of times the RPG will be modified into an IED

no my friend, the rpg will penetrate but not have enough explosive power against the humvee so the put an ied onto the rpg and it has the normal rpg explosion first. then they detonate the ied. much more massive impact. has killed 6 of the 8 from my husbands unit.

What is going on with your tanks while you are gone?
Gave my 180 to my uncle. He's been in the hobby for over a year now, has learned a lot, and is a very compassionate hobbyist. We moved my entire tank 3 plus hours and didn't lose a thing. The Xenia even survived the move (which stunned me).
My consolation is I'm going to put aside a bit of money each paycheck to someday build a mega tank...

I think my xenia could withstand a nuclear blast.
I'm gonna have to start pulling it out and trading before it gets out of hand.
Let us know when you get back so we can all send you some frags.

I'll certainly take you up on that offer, but it may be a few years before I settle down. Long term plan is to stockpile enough cash to retire, move to Australia, and work with the local church there. I may stick with this job for the next few years, or else try to get on with the State Department as a Foreign Service Officer. We'll see after I get over there and get a feel for it.
My xenia originally died back into oblivion when I moved my tank from my office 15 minuites away. I was stunned it survived.
On a equally cool note, my Clowns finally paired up and look to be building a nest, so I know my uncle is doing a great job.

El Guapo is right. What you are describing is an "IRL" or "Improvised Rocket Launcher". The only ordnance is the RPG warhead and it is fashioned in such a way that they are victim initiated and have no need for an operator. They will typically aim them at a road and use pressure switches that when ran over will initiate the rocket which has been pointed at a predesignated target. HMMWV's are notioriously sucesseptable to explosions and it doesnt require the newer RPG's to attain penetration although they may be using them for more effect on the target.

what i said earlier was straight from someone who was there and was wounded by it and they told my husband to be aware of. his nco also warned the ones leaving about it too.

The RPG itself has 2 kinds of warheads. One is for personnel and another one is slimmer for penetrating armor better. When an Iraqi made a improvised rocket laucher and aimed it at our compound he used an air-to-surface missile as ammuntion. Good luck over there Iraq is a bad place no matter where you are at. I haven't been since 2004 but i thank everyone who is going and is already there for their sacrifice.

So, can you say what kind of living accommodations you are given while there?

As a civilian contractor he should be hooked up real nice in a trailor all to himself, maybe one roommate. With the money he's making he could set up a nano out there pretty easily... Bottled water is plentiful!
