Those water alarms are not a bad idea. I might go over to Lowes and get a few myself.

I was thinking of using float valves, but this is a MUCH better idea! Off to Lowes/the bidding site I must go!

My zebra has been coming out a lot now in the morning while the lights are off. I sure love watching it. I got a little video... just click on the image:

yeah, you can see a bit of diatom outbreak. quite frustrating...

Sweet vid, thanks for sharing!
Never kept an eel myself, my Dad had a snowflake when I was 14 or so. Really intriguing to get one. Can't wait to finish the 125, so I can do an eel tank....

Awesome video! A couple quick questions...
What size pipe is that?
What are the "dimensions" per se of your eel?
Thanks! Excellent tank!

It's a 3 in pvc with 2 45deg ends.
The eel is just over 2ft. I should've got a better measurement before I put him in. My current measurement is by seeing where his head and tail are in correlation with the back of the tank and then measuring that space of the tank. I would guess the body is around 1.5 to 1.75 inches in diameter.
Thanks.. yeah, I can't wait til hypo is done and I can get the rock back in there!

I plan to add some 3" pipe in addition to my 1.5" pipe as well. I use the same method to measure my eel. It is hard to do though...
How long until hypo is done? I can't wait to see it once the rock is back in and the tank is stabilized!

yeah, I know... wait, wait, wait. This is definitely a hobby where patience is a good virtue to have.
Hypo is starting the 3rd week today. I'm leaving it at 1.009 for 4 wks instead of 3 just to make sure. Then 1 week to bring it back up to 1.025. So 3 more weeks until rock goes back in.

I agree, without patience, it is very hard to succeed in this hobby...
Ok. Better safe than sorry!

Wow, I tell you what... my striped dogface is one pushy puffer. It fights over food no matter how much it has eaten. I try to feed him first so I can then get some food to the eels and other fish, but he just continues to try to fight for the food. He even bit a chunk of squid that was already in the zebra's mouth - but luckily the zebra made off with it.
And also, the fella goes after my hand as soon as it hits the water. I have to distract him to put the algae clips on the glass. I haven't actually been bitten, but with how easily he shreds squid and shelled shrimp, I don't want him to get a chance at a finger... Do any of you have similar puffers??? have any of you been bitten?
i have 2 small puffers about 3in. and ive been bit. they can break the skin easily so im assuming yours can do some harm lol

Well, I'm leaving to go out of town for a week tonight. My mother in law is coming over this afternoon to see how to feed the aggressive tank (she's fed my reef tank a few times now without any problems). I'll tell her to "be careful" with the puffer. Hopefully she won't back out on me!

When I went on vacation for a week three weeks ago, I had my Mom feed my aggressive tank. Everything went well. I had her use my feeding stick to help prevent any accidents. Now my Mom absolutely loves my fish and always wants to watch when I feed them live and frozen! LOL.

The only time it's any issue really is when the algae clips are put in. The puffer tries to go past the clips and get your fingers. I've gotten it down to an art now - quickly putting them in without letting the puffer get too close. Hopefully he would figure out my strategy.

Well, my mom in law just came over to see how to feed the aggressive tank. First thing she asked "Will that thing bite me?" I said, "Uhhh, well, yeah it could..." She laughed (kinda).
