Thanks! me too. I'm glad I went with the striped dogface. Initially I was torn b/w the stars/stripes, pp puffer and the striped dogface. Don't get me wrong, the S&S and PPP are great. But this guy looks really cool and has a ton of personality.
They also don't get as big, and I really like it when they flare their tail and show their nice looking yellow colors in there. Very pretty puffer and good choice. May the one I had R.I.P.

At my LFS, when you walk in, they have a 72 bowfront and in it right now is a Striped Dogface. It comes right over and will follow your finger across the tank when you walk in. (He's probably thinking to himself, "food!")
LOL. If I ever set-up another large predatory tank, I'll have to add on my list a Striped Dogface puffer!

Yeah, that's one of the things I really like too. My son and daughter love to run their hands back and forth and watch him chase them back and forth. And b/c he is so friendly, all the other fish follow right behind him. Funny though, every once in a while he gets spooked and darts away and the others just scatter in all directions.

That is so funny! Mine does the exact same thing! I can go to either end of the tank and he'll follow with everyone trailing behind. He is everyone's favorite fish.

Hey peeps. Just found a great way to clean the parabolic reflectors for your lights. CLR!!! My reflectors for my T5's on my 55gal were looking pretty bad. I thought that they were ruined = seemed to have water/salt stains that just would not come out with any cleaner. So I tried CLR, and it took 95% of it all off. They almost look new now!
Oh, and BTW, just got my replacement bulbs for both tanks. $$$!!!! But they look great!

Thanks nwdyr. And yeah, Arlene.. I'll get some pics. I just got done cleaning the tank all around, every corner, etc - since all the rock will be going back in and will make cleaning these areas more difficult. So the tank is a bit cloudy now - but I'll get some pics tomorrow. I want to try to compare with old pics.
And I started upping the salt today! Starting a few days later than I planned... but it's 1.011 now! I'll be raising it 0.002 / 0.003 each day, so it'll be 5 or 6 days until it's back to 1.025. Can't wait! Won't be too long until I start looking for my angels!!! Maybe a month or two?! The tank will be about 6 mos old then, so should be ready for them.

How are you raising the salt? I'm asking because today I need to start doing the same thing for my QT. I have a little Naso Tang that's been in Hypo for about 5 weeks now, and ich free for 4 weeks.

Well... I mixed new saltwater in a 32 gal - mixed new ro/di water with SUPER high salinity. It is about 1.065. I then emptied out about 25-30 gals from the display. I'm then adding the high concentrated saltwater at a very slow rate. I'll probably have to empty off some and then add more again. Some people do large water changes to bring theirs up. I did this with my 55. I figure this is just as safe and requires a lot less work.
Here's a pic. You can see the ro/di feed from the stand and then the return to the 180. I have a koralia #4 in the 32 gal keeping it circulated.

Cool! Do you know how long it will take to return to normal salinity? Good luck!

From 1.009 to 1.025 - so 0.016 difference. You are suppose to raise it 0.002-0.003 per day. I'm on track, so it should be about 6 days total.

I'm just glad that 32 gal fit on the dresser!
Siphon is easier than pumping imo. AND man, I hope you're right!!! ALL that ich better be GONE!!

I HAD A CLOSE CALL YESTERDAY!!! I left for work at 4:30AM. My wife called my cell around 7AM in a panic. She says "There's some loud screaming sound coming from your tank!" I told her to look in the stand and sure enough, my sump had started to overflow! GOOD THING I HAD THOSE WATER ALARMS!!! I had left my ro/di running for mixing the salt - filling up the large garbage can on the dresser (It takes a day to fill). It had somehow just got high enough to start a siphon again and started siphoning into the tank (it was actually only 1/4 full). I told her to take the siphon tube out of the tank and put it all in the garbage can. Luckily only about 15 gal or so went into the tank - so it didn't drop the salinity much - and only a few cups of water had leaked over before she got it stopped! Everybody was fine, except my wife freaking out. She got a couple towels and dried it up. No harm done!!!
If I hadn't got those water alarms, who knows how long it would have taken before the water would have been noticed. I didn't get off work until 7pm - so it could have been a disaster!!!
whew. Close one!

Well peeps! Some updates.
In preparation for re-adding the rock, I wanted to try to make the pvc look more natural. So I got two ~2in length pieces of pvc and drilled holes in them. I then tied down pieces of rock with fishing line. Pretty simple - I put it in the 45deg elbows and now I think it looks much better.
Not bad eh?
