Well, these are my humble opinions as a parent, and I don't want to step on toes here...so here's my 2 cents
I have a 6 year old daughter. Kids take control from day one. Your bed is for you and your spouse only~ put the kid in his own bed. The sooner the better, for your realtionship with your spouse, and for you kiddo. Both of you will sleep better.
Aria slept through the night a 5 weeks old. Baby's have tiny tummies and it is hard to sleep through the night. I started adding rice cereal to her last bottle. had sweet dreams ever since.
My husband and I are old school when it comes to parenting,
~spare the child not the rod.
When Aria turned 2 we got her a toddler bed. She soon learned that she could get up when ever she wanted..even at 2 am...and it would take up to 2 hours to get her back to sleep.
After a week of this, I was frazzled. Finally I told her:
"Aria, you need to go to sleep and so do I. If you get out of bed you will get a spanking."
She giggled at me and jumped out of her bed...*SWAT*
.....3 minutes latter...hehehe giggle Mommy!...*SWAT*
This continued for at least twenty minutes.
Finally Brian came in..."Want a Break?"
I stumbled back into bed.
I heard Brian deliver his "stern father" ultimatum. "Aria you need to stay in bed and go to sleep. If you get out of bed you will get a spanking. Understand?"
She grinned and said "yes daddy".
"Good night Aria".
Then Brian returned to bed with me.
We both chatted quietly wondering how this would work out....
5 minutes latter a mischivious little Aria appeared in our door way. Brian got up, He reviewed the ultimatum, spanked her, and sent her back to bed.
5 minutes latter~ enter on stage right ~ the cute little Aria pushing her luck.
Brian~repeat...*SWAT*
5 minutes latter~ enter stage right......
This went on for at least an hour. Aria began to come up with reasons for being out of bed... glass of water, glass of juice, glass of (fill in the blank) ...as minutes ticked by you could hear her little pitter patter of her feet pausing as she headed for our bed room, trying to think of yet another reason to be out of bed.
Brian had some great responses!!!
"Well..look who's out of bed.....Aria you must love spankings cause you're out of bed again"
"Back for more are we?"
Finally Aria stayed in bed and we all slept through the night. Since that day all we have to do to discipline Aria is ask her if she wants us to count to 3.
Repetion is another key part of getting kids to go to bed. My bedtime routine was bottle, bath, rock to sleep.
Aria was just over a month old. One evening bedtime was latter than usual. To make sure both Aria and I got a good night sleep I decided to skip the bath. After giving her a clean diaper and pj's I prepared her bottle. She wouldn't have anything to do with the bottle. She fussed and cried. I was very puzzled until i realized i had changed the schedule.
I went back upstairs and took off her pj's and started preparing her bath. the minute she heard the bath water running she was back to her happy little self. Giggled through the bath, inhaled her bottled, and fell fast asleep.
Giving that you are nursing that is another reason he's not sleeping through the night. Even though it's very healthy, it's not as filling. I would try starting a bottle before bedtime and mix in a little baby cereal. Cut the top of the
[hr]
in a cross section like a X to provide a slightly larger hole for the cereal mixed in to get through.
Aria started eating solid food when she turned 3 months old. Her first meal was grill cheese sandwhiches and tomatoe soup. I put half a sandwhich and a cup or so of tomatoe soup in a blender and mixed it until it was similar to apple sauce. She loved it!!! She still had 3 bottles a day, but i started feeding her baby cereal mixed with cottage cheese and apple sauce for Breakfast, something simple for lunch..different foods that were easy to blend. ABC cambells vegi soup, and something similar for dinner. She had a 10:am bottle, bottle before afternoon nap, and bottle after dinner just before bed.
Look forward to hear what you think
