Well, these are my humble opinions as a parent, and I don't want to step on toes here...so here's my 2 cents
I have a 6 year old daughter. Kids take control from day one. Your bed is for you and your spouse only~ put the kid in his own bed. The sooner the better, for your realtionship with your spouse, and for you kiddo. Both of you will sleep better.
Aria slept through the night a 5 weeks old. Baby's have tiny tummies and it is hard to sleep through the night. I started adding rice cereal to her last bottle. had sweet dreams ever since.
My husband and I are old school when it comes to parenting,
~spare the child not the rod.
When Aria turned 2 we got her a toddler bed. She soon learned that she could get up when ever she wanted..even at 2 am...and it would take up to 2 hours to get her back to sleep.
After a week of this, I was frazzled. Finally I told her:
"Aria, you need to go to sleep and so do I. If you get out of bed you will get a spanking."
She giggled at me and jumped out of her bed...*SWAT*
.....3 minutes latter...hehehe giggle Mommy!...*SWAT*
This continued for at least twenty minutes.
Finally Brian came in..."Want a Break?"
I stumbled back into bed.
I heard Brian deliver his "stern father" ultimatum. "Aria you need to stay in bed and go to sleep. If you get out of bed you will get a spanking. Understand?"
She grinned and said "yes daddy".
"Good night Aria".
Then Brian returned to bed with me.
We both chatted quietly wondering how this would work out....
5 minutes latter a mischivious little Aria appeared in our door way. Brian got up, He reviewed the ultimatum, spanked her, and sent her back to bed.
5 minutes latter~ enter on stage right ~ the cute little Aria pushing her luck.
Brian~repeat...*SWAT*
5 minutes latter~ enter stage right......
This went on for at least an hour. Aria began to come up with reasons for being out of bed... glass of water, glass of juice, glass of (fill in the blank) ...as minutes ticked by you could hear her little pitter patter of her feet pausing as she headed for our bed room, trying to think of yet another reason to be out of bed.
Brian had some great responses!!!
"Well..look who's out of bed.....Aria you must love spankings cause you're out of bed again"
"Back for more are we?"
Finally Aria stayed in bed and we all slept through the night. Since that day all we have to do to discipline Aria is ask her if she wants us to count to 3.
Repetion is another key part of getting kids to go to bed. My bedtime routine was bottle, bath, rock to sleep.
Aria was just over a month old. One evening bedtime was latter than usual. To make sure both Aria and I got a good night sleep I decided to skip the bath. After giving her a clean diaper and pj's I prepared her bottle. She wouldn't have anything to do with the bottle. She fussed and cried. I was very puzzled until i realized i had changed the schedule.
I went back upstairs and took off her pj's and started preparing her bath. the minute she heard the bath water running she was back to her happy little self. Giggled through the bath, inhaled her bottled, and fell fast asleep.
Giving that you are nursing that is another reason he's not sleeping through the night. Even though it's very healthy, it's not as filling. I would try starting a bottle before bedtime and mix in a little baby cereal. Cut the top of the

[hr]
in a cross section like a X to provide a slightly larger hole for the cereal mixed in to get through.
Aria started eating solid food when she turned 3 months old. Her first meal was grill cheese sandwhiches and tomatoe soup. I put half a sandwhich and a cup or so of tomatoe soup in a blender and mixed it until it was similar to apple sauce. She loved it!!! She still had 3 bottles a day, but i started feeding her baby cereal mixed with cottage cheese and apple sauce for Breakfast, something simple for lunch..different foods that were easy to blend. ABC cambells vegi soup, and something similar for dinner. She had a 10:am bottle, bottle before afternoon nap, and bottle after dinner just before bed.
Look forward to hear what you think

I have to say, you make some very good points and thank you. But I am the guilty party here. I WANT the closeness with him and yes given that I am nursing, it is much easier to have him right there as he does not wake fully and goes back to sleep much faster and then so do I. I have also coslept with my other kids too and had NO problems (knock on wood) transitioning them to their own beds. Lilly who is 6 was much easier than Julia (9) I was alone for most of my pregnancy and the 1st 6 weeks of his life (long story) so this was my "last resort" before I gave up and now it just feels cozy. I have anxiety issues too so I feel better having him that close. I will start him with naps in his crib soon and see how that goes. I have read it is too confussing for them if you try before 6 months. I dunno, this is like starting all over for me....I thought I was done after Lilly....SUPRISE!!!!

As for my girls, we have a very good bedtime schedule and have since they were little. And I agree that is important to keep them scheduled....at least try too anyway!
I am obviously home now
and both ponies are still hanging tight!! I need names b/c they are both boys and I don't just want to saying "the worst guy or bad guy' b/c that sounds mean....but he moves wherever the other guy goes and isn't just laying in the sand!!!!

I glad to hear you liked the suggestions. It's a precarious line to cross when it comes to giving parental advice.

It's also wonderful to hear that the boys are doing great.
Did you get my chat invitation. I'd love to help you come up with names

Yes! Got the invite and accepted so we are good!
I think everyone is intitled to their opinions and parenting styles and who are we to say it "should" be a certain way or one way is better? kwim
The way I've done it has been trial and error and I stick with what works for our family! I'm sure you have done the same.
Yes help with names!!! I have been trying to think of something that shows the great strength and will they have.

These names came up for me...how about Neptune and Poseidon? Talk about strong names!! Pontus is "god of the deep sea". hehe...you asked for good strong names.
Since they're horses, I went with the western theme in naming mine...Apache and Navajo.
I'm SO glad that your horses are starting to come around. Keep us posted on their progress, and definitely post pics when possible.

Hi, How are your ponies doing, I might suggest some small ghost shrimp enriched also. mine liked to hunt something a little bigger now and then, esp if they are not eating frozen. Also some enriched brine. Give them a variety. Try to get them on frozen asap. much healthier. I have some meds here if you think you might need them, but I am leaving for China in a couple of days. If you think you may need them, you can have them, just pay shipping.
You might also try the seahorse site, (very glad to see one here, and everyone here is doing great with thier horses) but there are a few people that have experiance in treating sick horses there that may be able to give you some good info on treatment.
Let me know about the meds by mid morning or so.

PS what about Hidalgo for one of your ponies.

Well here we are on morning three and both are still ok. I am watching one right now looking thru the rockwork for food.
I will hold off on the meds....I am treating with Melafix per instructions from a sh guru and lfs owner for 20yrs. That was kind of u to offer though so thank you!!
And how is that pronounced exactly? My morning coffee hasn't sunk in yet! lol

And just so no one freaks out....the one pic that looks like he has large spots on him are just water spost I didn't clean off the glass.....I promise
Did a 10gal water change and both are more active the healthier one was showing off this morning doing a lil dance

Awesome!!! but...they're kinda hairy...and puggy...and the peachy skin color...I've never seen a seahorse quite like that...

The boys are beautiful. I like your tank too

The one has a frosty snout, is that the one who has the cut there?

I will post a full tank shot tonight......sometime! lol
Hairy & puggy huh....good thing they can't see the computer, I wouldn't want them to be offended now!

I have never seen horses like this either, I just KNEW I couldn't leave them there.

Hidalgo is the movie about the Mustang that did the long distance races. He raced in arabia in the 1800s. His bloodline still roams free out west.

Well morning 4 and no one has gotten any worse!!
I think I like Zues for the guy who was the worse of the 2. Whatch think??? He has really surprised me...I still hold my breath when I do my morning check and thankfully I haven't been dissapointed.....phew! I still worry b/c of his lack of energy but I will continue to do small water changes every other day. Also if I get a female, I will name her Roxanne......anyone remember the movie Zues & Roxanne w/the dog and dolphin??
Lemme know what u all think? Then I still need help with the other guy too
