Help....sick horses

Ok, this thread has been hard for me to sift through. But I will try my best.
A few questions, Was the gill area inflamed or irritated even reddish (dark red)?
Sounds to me like the gu at the LFS you purchased them from doesn't know crap. Feeding Guppies and other frozen stuff? This was his problem..he was feeding food that they essentially won't eat and it was deteriorating and ruining his water quality. I think the bio load in that tank may even have been stressed a bit. Hence the hard breathing as there isn't enough oxygen in the water.
Sounds to me like your guys will only eat Live food. This will be a problem. Your 200 pods won't last a week with them hunting when at full strength. However it sounds like your tank is established for a while so your pods may be able to reproduce quickly in that environment.
How big is this tank and how much live rock do you have in there? Any plants? How strong is your flow rate?
Also everyday feed the live brine, you can grow this yourself, if interested how ask and I can dig through my notes on the best procedure. However when you feed the live brine add a few pieces of frozen mysis shrimp. Soak this in selcon for 24 hours.
For the guy that doesn't seem to have strength to hunt much, give him brine that have sat in seawater with some Garlic extreme in the water, this will help boost his immune system and increase his appetite.
Stop the mela-fix. NOW! This is not reef safe and will harm invertebrates. Basically killing off your pods. Keep doing daily water changes, but definitely stop the mela-fix. I have not read or saw anything that shows or signifies a parasite nor disease...just poor care and health decline due to LFS.
As a side note, You will have better luck adding snake oil to your tank for all the good melafix does. Melafix in my opinion is junk and worthless. I used it in the beginning of my SW career and it never worked. The health of your horses has gotten better through your care, environment, and water changes. Melfix has nothing to do with this.
And NEVER frequent the LFS again.

Titan? Or name him after one of the 3 musketeers..Dartanion...hmm...or after one of the Greek Heros...Hercules,
Aphrodite - Apollo
-ARES was the god of war, or more precisely of warlike frenzy. Though an immortal deity, he was bested by Heracles in battle and was almost killed when stuffed into a jar by two giants. When another hero wounded him during the Trojan War, he received scant sympathy from his father Zeus.
- Artemis - Athena - Demeter - Dionysus - Hephaestus - Hera - Hermes - Poseidon - Zeus - Others ...or Trojan after the trojan horse
OOOOOOO even better, for the new girl.
Atalanta

Haha sounds like we are on the same path with these names....I was thinking Hercules but wasn't sure b/c its a cartoon too hehe!
I just lost my snake "Aries" last Thursday so anything too close to that might make me cry

See u have Zues in there too! LOL
Melafix is stopped as of NOW! Thank you! I am just trying to heal an injury that I believe was caused be an emerald crab in the "death trap" they were in.
U r right, they show NO signs of illness, they are just weak. i am using Marine-Care plus as it helps improve water quality and helps with the slime coat and in the healing of injuries.
My tank is a 75 gal with maybe 100 or so lbs of lr and lots of ls. It has been up since Feb 03. HTH
Oh and I have NEVER noticed any red near their gills or them being inlarged or irritated at all

Marine-care is one of the better products in my opinion, once the get healthy completely though I would stop using it. You have a good supply of live rock so they should (if not now) have a large supply of pods in the future to hunt.
Basically sounds like a result of poor environment, Just keep up the water changes and they should come back around completely. The one may never be as active as the other, that is the way horses are. I had one that would get in front of my powerhead and swim in the current and another that would stay hitched in one place most of the day, even during feeding it would stay hitched and wait for the food to come to it....Some horses are just "lazy".

Here is my tank.....please know that is had been slightly neglected for the last year + due to my pregnancy....and chasing 2 other kids along with work really wore me out. So it was not top priority. Please no lectures....and my BAD kitty(totally black cat named ANGEL, yeah right) has done a number on my stand...grrrr but here it is anyway

If you look u can see the horses in the front on the branch like rock

Hmmm, I don't see the horses, but I'm REALLY glad to hear that they're slowly coming around.
I completely agree with Darth in that the water changes that you've been doing has more then likely been making the biggest change in their improvement. Also, garlic makes a world of difference to the diet. They'll only take live? Do you know if they are captive bred or wild caught? As I'm sure you know, if they're wild caught, they may never take to frozen...but that doesn't mean you shouldn't keep trying.
One other suggestion, if you're up to it, would be to add some softer hitches in the form of soft corals such as colt coral, xenias, or fake plants have worked great for my horses.
Any close up pics of your babies? Again, I'm SO glad they're coming around...good job.

From the close up pics that you've posted...I would say you have a pair of kudas??? The first 2 pics for sure a male, the other one, I can't tell. Anyone else??
Lisa

Lisa, they are def both males!! They are so beautiful! Still pretty mellow and not too active but both still alive. I won't complain about that. However, I strongly believe they are wild caught which absolutley breaks my heart.

I already love them but feel terrible that they are now trapped. They must be depressed. Well I will try to make them the happiest I can.....anbody know where I can get a few girls.....maybe that will bring up their spirits!!! Once they are better of course

Well, they will certaintly enjoy the company, however, I don't think you're prepared to be come a seahorse grandmother of up to 2000 fry.

Have they taken frozen food yet? If they are wild caught, if it were me, I would purchase another male that is tank bred. Monkey see, monkey do. I purchased a wild caught false percula to teach my tank bred clown what an anemone was. Chloe was horrified at first, hovering nervously, watching the new friend go in and out of the anemone, finally...no longer able to hold her curiousity she dove in too.
I am just thankful that you are able to give them a good home.
Look forward to more pics

Morning!! Everyone still hanging tight here!!
It was a super busy night last night, the girls came home from a weeks stay at their dad's before school starts
sorry couldn't contain myself there! LOL
No they aren't taking frozen yet. BUT what I didn't tell u (I was holding out) shame on me but b4 I found these 2, I had placed an order online which contained 2 yeloow seahorses which arrived this past Wed. SO I got a male and female which are now in the 14gal. They are smaller than these guys and I wasn't quite sure what to do. They are eating and having a good time in the 14 for now so what do you think?******hanging head in shame for not being up front******
I thought u would all think I was wacko
sorry

14 gallon with 4 horses may stress your bio-load. Additionally if the new guys are tank raised they will just have been exposed to pathogens they may never have encountered by placing them with Wild-caught horses. I dislike mixing tank and wild caught just because the wild caught may have some minor disease/pathogen that the tank bred have never encountered and the tank bred are at risk to getting sick. But this is just my opinion.
I do think your bio-load will be stressed though.

No no... I have the new guys in the 14gal and the 2 wild caught in the 75gal....I have NOT mixed them.
I've had 2 horses in the 14g b4 with no problems
I would have 4 horses in the 75g but won't mix these guys anytime soon

??? Wacko, hardly silly~ I drove a round trip of 1000 miles, by myself, to pick 5 dwarf ponies from Bronco300. And pick that head up...I still haven't mentioned the fact that I am considering stocking my 90 gallon with dwarf seahorses...
oops, fish is out of the bag now
The only thing I'd pick on you for is lack of pics of you little beauties
although I understand you're tight schedule~ ha...I one to talk...I haven't posted pics for over 3 weeks

hmmmmmmm, good point. Would a fresh water dip or other meds help to remove these foreign bugs?

Only 2 horses per tank.....The new ones are NOT with the "Big Guys"

most likely not. This has been debated in the past. I believe the the dip will stress them out initially and be more hazardous than any pathogens brought in. QT for three months will show if they have any pathogens though most likely.

Rynka.....LOVE ur nev avitar pic....what a beauty! And I will post pics of the newbies soon! With the long weekend I will make time! LOL

Thanks! That's "Titan", the father pony. Look forward to your pics!!!

Well the boys are still hanging in there! I am still a lil concerned with the one guy who still lays artound or leans on something to support his weight. What else can I do for him??
I put some fake plants and soft hitches in there yesterday. He does get up and swim for a short time then rests a majority of the day
