Just wanted to see what people think about Hillary Clinton and her views. I think she is a very bright woman and like some of her ideas. Here's some of the things I know about her...
THE WAR
She is in favor of reducing our troops in Iraq and bringing an end to this war. While a lot of people here disagree with this position, it is an absolute necessity for anyone I'd consider voting for.
I've read some people criticizing her for back-tracking after originally supporting the decision to go to war in Iraq. However I'm not sure this is really a flaw. There may be different reasons for her change of viewpoint. (1) She may have simply changed her mind. While this may appear to be waffling, I'd rather have someone who is open enough to realize and correct an error than a president who is so stubborn that they will stick with an incorrect course of action, suffering massive losses for their stubborness. (2) She may believe that we accomplished our objective already. Many people thought we should go to war to remove Saddam from power and to eliminate the possibility of a nuclear program in Iraq. These goals were accomplished early on in the war and, if she believed that this was the intended goal, then there really is no inconsistency.
HEALTH CARE
Hillary's got a wild plan for health care but I'm not sure if it would be cost feasible. She has a plan that would provide government subsidized health care options to people, similar to the health care received by people in Congress. Her proposal would essentially require everyone to maintain health insurance, at a reduced rate. It would also require employers to offer coverage to their employees. Her plan would also require the insurance companies to accept anybody, regardless of health.
This would be an expensive proposal. She expects to fund this program by eliminating the tax cut that Bush gave to the wealthy, which would provide about 52 billion dollars, and also clean up the fraud and waste spent, that she estimates to be approximately 77 billion dollars. The latter estimate seems pretty speculative and, if she's wrong about the numbers then this would likely create quite a deficit.
HILLARY THE WIFE
I personally think that it would be a benefit to have Bill back in the whitehouse, albeit not as president. His experience can help Hillary do the job. I also think that her dealing with his scandal did show some loyalty and class. She handled a tough matter better than most could have.
What does everyone else think?
