Yeah, that is a cultural thing here in Miami. The hispanic parents do it very early. Almost all of the babies in Miami have their ears pierced. I wouldn't do it that young, but I'm sure my Cuban mother in law would want me to.

My friends that did it are Italian. I guess its a cultural thing with them too! Just seems weird to me...

My friend's mother in law is Cuban, and she wanted to put perfume on my friend's baby as soon as she was born.

OHHHHHH don't even get me started about the perfume!!!! They have this specific one that they all use and I can't stand it!!! I think it is called La Violeta. I banned it from my house. My husband wanted to put it and my baby is a boy! To this day when he stays with my mother-in-law, I pick him up and he smells like that nasty stuff. To me nothing smells better than a new baby. Why would you want to put some cheap stinky perfume on that?

On top of the stink I also cant imagine that dousing a new born with perfume can be remotely healthy for them
