How long can Bang hold out...?

I use a small critter cage, the kind people use for small reptiles and hermit crabs. I drill really really tiny holes all over to get water flow and the I clamp it into my refugium. This has helped me keep the baby brine shrimp I feed them concentrated in a smaller area around the babies. You could do the same thing and clamp it to the inside of our main tank.

I consistently have 30-50 babies per month using 2 males rotated in with the female. I sell them to local hobbiest and local LFS. The problem with trying to raise them on a large scale is that they are very hard to switch over from the live foods to prepared foods, they only average 25 or so babies every 5-7 weeks, it takes 4-6 months before they are big enough to sell, and wild caught fish are dirt cheap. Until they are banned from being harvested from the wild I doubt that captive breed will take off. And even if the wilds are banned, the captive breed will be rather pricey. I sell mine fairly cheap and would anticipate a "breeder" to sell them for at least 4 times what I sell mne for.

You got it Spidey....

Bang, you nailed it. Wife found a breeder box on the way home, so I tried to catch him. Just as soon as he hit the net....SPEWWWW, out they came, right into the net. I don't think I missed a one.
Best count that I can get is 40. Two were still born, so I thought. One of them started wiggling around later, then joined the group. The other one was gone this morning. He either woke up and joined the group or got near one of the cracks and something drug him out.
They all made it thru the night and look awesome. They are so cute. I'll try to do a little more reading on them, but I hear it's doubtful that I'll be able to keep them alive. I did try some cyclopeez last night, and will again today. They are so tiny, I can't tell if they are eating it or not.

You can hatch brine shrimp pretty easy. they only take about 24 hours to hatch. Fresh hatched brine have the most nutrition. I have never raised any saltwater fish, but I used to raise freshwater angels. I would hatch a jar per day and they would eat them up. that was the only way I could get them to live. All you need is a mason jar and an airstone. I bought mine at pet supplies plus. I forget the salinity of the water, but it is higher than your tank. I still hatch some once in a while to feed my corals or whatever else would eat them. Once they hatch the shells will float. put a small flashlight at the bottom and suck them out with a 1/4" hose onto a net lined with a piece of bed sheet. coffee filter works, but you have to go slower.

Dwight, how do you tell the difference between a male and a female? I got a pair today and as far as I can tell, I have a pair... one has a more square jaw and the second fin is longer.

You need to remove dad, he's going to get very hungry soon.
Oh Dad was taken out immediately. He spit them out in the net transfer, but I went ahead and put him in there just to make sure he was done. But removed him within 10 mins. He is back in the sea and was eating with the rest of the community tonight.
Tried to squirt some more cyclopeez into the breeder box tonight. Still not sure if they are eating. They are soooo many of them, and they are soooo small. It's hard to tell if they are eating it or not. But none have died. They are all just hoovering, sometimes dashing around, just like Mom & Pop.
