how to get a cleaner tank

Depends on the size of the bags. If the local fish stores dont have them then ***** or petsmart sell the re-usable media bags. You can fill two of those up half way and they should do pretty good. However after thinking about it some more I probably wouldn't try to stuff them inside of your bubble traps...rather hanging them in your skimmer section would probably be safer.

Ok will do. I'll hang them in the skimmer area in the sump and see how that works. I do have stuff floating around inside that won't go into my O/F... so that'll have to be something that I work on when I get more pumps. I just want my tank to look crystal clear!

Based on what I've read in this thread. I would say you need to increase the surface agitation along with, increasing the flow along the sand bed in your tank. For now you might just move the PHs around to get a different flow pattern. One that keeps things off the bottom and keeps them in suspension until you OF can grab it. 2 PHs agitating the surface, pointing toward the OF would help a lot.
The carbon thing.....that's just one of the many debates in this hobby. You'll also see a big variance in the time frame that the carbon is good for. 24 hrs - 6 weeks. IIRC the Lignite carbon is the best. I run carbon when I'm not being lazy. It does a lot of the same things as running a skimmer does. However, carbon does some things a skimmer can't do, as well as a skimmer, does things carbon can't do.

I agree with the carbon. I have 2x 11 oz. bags of chemipure in my sump. One of the bags is normal chemipure and the other is chemipure elite. I have to change out the one bag here pretty soon and I will be getting the elite so that I have 2 bags of the elite hanging. My only issue with this is that none of the LFS carry the elite and the one that sold the normal does not stock it any more as I got the last one. I gotta find out if this stuff stores for a while on a shelf so I can order more than 1 can at a time. I honestly feel it is the best $11 i spent for the elite.
For me, I noticed my tank got "dirty" once I took off the filter sock. I have learned to live with seeing the "marine snow" and know that the little critters in the tank and sump would thank me if they could.

Say that 10x's really fast.

I've never tried the IIRC stuff...perhaps I'll look for it the next time I get some more. So far untill my 120G build gets done and I start running my sump I've always used canisters on my other tanks and I run the carbon in them. I change it out once a month...system stays stable, peramiters the same. I have heard other people saying you should only run it for like 24 hours but I've never had any problems running it for a month. Infact when I used to by the pouches that were designed for my rena filters they actually say to change once a month.
I've also heard that some people think there could be a link between running carbon and Tangs coming down with HLLE. Again, my powder brown seems healthy and happy. I can't comment on the effects it has on corals but people run it on reef tanks, so...I say give it a shot and see how you like it. If you notice anything negative than don't do it.

My 3 tangs in the 225G got Hlle.....I removed all carbon (amongst other things) and I cured them
I do run chemipure elite though.....and will change it every 4 months (maybe)

IDK about a powder......i think Naso would be ok...or a purple....BUT you don;t want all of them
Right. Yeah, I'm just going to get one, I know the whole rule with having more than one tang in your tang means baaaaad times for the fish. But I wanted to get one at least. They look awesome. I figured that powder was going to be a long shot as well... I could do with a Naso though... as long as the one I get has the lipstick and is colorful then I'll be happy! If I can find one soon then I'll probably find myself getting him within the next few weeks and tossing him in the QT for a month or two. I'm excited!

It's settled! I'm getting a Blonde Naso Tang in the next month or two! Most likely will be my next fish since they're a peaceful fish as well.

Naso's are beautiful but they do get huge! I like my powderbrown and like the powderblue they don't get quite as large.

The purples stay a moderate size...I like those there are a couple up at one of the LFS's around here right now. Infact this one has a full grown Naso in one of their tanks right now and to be honest I couldn't see putting one in anything smaller than a 200+ once they get that size. Right now it's in a 180G and it just doesnt have room to swimm...you can tell he don't look to happy.
