I do think that people are researching more, there is a lot less topics per day here in this section then their was last May when I started. That or less people starting.
Economy maybe.

I know full well how to find the information that I need on the internet, as are most people. But I have learned that the people on this board know more than most of the information out there on teh interwebz. So I would rather ask my questions right here where I know that if someone gives me bad advice, it will be corrected by the knowledgeable people that use this forum and are more than willing to help me do it the right way.

LMAO!
Joe,
I actually wrote up an acticle of sorts on how to kill aiptasia using pickling lime just so I could copy and paste out of word since it comes up alot. I guess I could do that for every reduntant question but I don't know if my hard drive is big enough. Which is bad considering even a lengthy article is only a few kilobytes. :)
I guess its not really worth preaching about, but I'll reitterate that when I first came here I got some really good info from the posters here. If I hadn't I wouldnt have came back. Of course maybe some of you think that might not have been such a bad thing at this point

What I think is funny Joe, is that people get defensive instead of just appreciating that this post could actually help some people. If you cant just take it for what it is, read it, apply it if you want to, and move on with whatever your doing, you must really be an angry ball of rage waiting to lash out at the world. If the title doesn't sound like something you would like to, or need to know about, why read it much less respond with angry bitter comments. I didn't name it "all noobs are idiots" the title was plain and simple and I feel accurate to the message. I hope it helps some.

I am new and only ask one simple question and the help i got was far better than the three books i read or the lfs guy selling me stuff just to move it. i see the point in looking it up on your own. Every one here does a great job of correcting you when you have made a mistake. This site is a wonderful tool. Thanks for the help

Well, this forum in itself is a place for knowledge. Why google when you can come here?
Besides, SWF.com wants people to come here and post regardless if they researched somewhere else. Why? Because the more time someone spends HERE the more likely they will click the links on the side and buy something.
It's marketing. Let people post. If you don't like the everyday newbie questions, ignore them.

An if hobbyists don't like the OPs tips don't use them. He did not say do it this way or leave. If one person is helped by his suggestions then it was a tread worth starting. knowledge is knowledge no matter where you get it. IMO the more sources you can access the better prepared you are

One quick addition to the thread:
The problem with repeated questions doesn't lie in the original poster. Rather, it is the arrogance and disrespect of the "experts" that causes the commotion. The "experts" cause the original posters to feel parasitic and leave.
If someone is giving bad advice, steer them to the correct path but be respectful about it.

And how this has this to do with the original thread?

So then by researching on the site would the hobbyist not confront the “evil” experts one on one and not be made to feel like a parasite

I'm just talking about the people who go to a thread acting all high and mighty and say things like, "I'm not going to waste my time, use the search function." Or people who us "let me google that for you."

well shut out the light, I forgot we have the internet no need for this place anymore!
Sounds like my dad when you ask him how to spell a word....GO LOOK IT UP IN THE DICTIONARY!!!
....how the hell do you find somthing in the dictionary when you have no idea how its spelled? lol
Some people have specific problems and this is a great place to ask those questions where as the internet has more vague knowledge and sources could be sketchy. If you are comfortable with sources on this site, then I think this is the way to go.
People helping people....its just american!
Communists!
